Moukey MMS-5 Desk Mic Stand: Great for close quarters
This review is for the Moukey MMS-5 Desk Mic Stand What I like about this mic stand far exceeds what i don't like. What I like: The Moukey MMS-5 Desk Mic Stand is small enough to fit closely and mic an amp. The moving parts function reliably well. Knobs and boom harness are plastic, but they are well formed and finished. The base, vertical post, and boom arm are metal. I also have one of these mic stands at my computer with an Audio-Technica at2020 USB mic for zooming. Most other portable boom mic stands have long boom arms that get in the way of other wiring/equipment considerations. I bought 2 of these moukeys, then I bought 2 more when I realized the advantage for using with guitar amplifiers. I'm planning to buy another. What I don't like: The base could be a little heavier to compensate for the full reach of the boom arm (i.e. if I fully extend the boom or even extend it half-way with the audio technica at2020 usb mic, it will tip over). The only other thing I don't like is the 3 foam pads on the bottom of the base. They are thicker than need be and contribute to potential wobble if mic weight/boom reach is not carefully balanced. The design would be better served with a full ring of padding. Overall: I'm pleased. The parts work reliably, the design is pleasant to look at, and the size is better for my needs.

Great quality for a tabletop stand.
Great quality for a tabletop stand. Worked perfectly to mic a Cajun drum. Wish came with a smaller mic clip, only held newer mics but won’t hold an older Shure. Switched it out.

Nice Small Boom Stand
I Purchased this Desk top mic stand to replace a small stand I was using for to mic up my guitar amp. It's pretty nice for the price; its big enough to be really versatile, but small enough to pack easily and not take up much room. I can easily set a mic up to any of the 4 speakers in the amp's cabinet without having to extend the height of the stand. The knob to adjust the angle of of the boom arm feels a little bulky, but it works well. The small brass thread adapter also works really well to fit many different microphone clips. The metal base easily threads when it's time to pack up, but is really solid. The only down side is the stability of the stand when the boom arm is level with the floor and fully extended. It seemed to start leaning, but I also had the mic card just hanging off the side. However, I never need to have the arm perfectly horizontal so it's fine for me. Once the arm seems to be at any angle, the stand feels really sturdy again. If you are a musician on a budget (like myself), this is a really good option.

The Stand Seems Good, However...
I ordered this mic stand yesterday and it arrived on my doorstep today. I had things I had to take care of when I first got home from work, so I had to wait a few hours to open it. I was pleasantly surprised with how heavy the base was. When I was first considering buying the particular mic stand, I wasn't certain it would hold the weight of my Shure SM7B mic that I use for my recordings. So I started to put the pieces together and I opened the microphone clip that comes with the stand and two small, obviously broken pieces fell out the package into my hand. The pieces, as well as where they broke off the microphone, are pictured, as well as the very slightly damaged box. I hadn't even noticed what little damage was on the box until after I'd already opened it. (It had been put in an Amazon yellow packing folder so when I removed it, I did not think to check over the box before opening it). It was a bummer that the clip was broken, but I decided to go ahead and test to make sure the Shure would be fine on it. From what all I can tell, it seems like it can easily hold the weight of the microphone, which was my biggest concern. However, I will say that the rising and lower mechanism of the stand isn't great. After raising it, the top part now gets super stuck when it's put to the lowest point and I personally have trouble getting it to raise again. Assuming most people would not need to raise and lower it too much, that may not be completely necessary and it seems to be steady once set. I will need to further use the stand to make sure it's actually going to work for my needs before I give my final rating on the product. As of right now, because it arrived with a piece broken, I am rating it with 3 stars. If it proves to be as steady as I think it is, I'll raise my review.

Great for mic'ing my guitar amp
I bought this stand not for use on a desktop, but as a quick way to mic my guitar amp for recording and when playing venues that will bring your amp into the board. The stand is small, light, but feels very sturdy. I also had zero balance problems with the two mics I used. The provided mic adaptor is well design and will work with all regular-sized microphones. The little "flaps" in the mic adaptor help the mic stay firmly in place without squeezing it too tight. I have a second mic (a copy of a Sennheiser e609) that can be draped over the amp by its cable, but I often think it sounds better when mic'd a little further away from the grill cloth, and wanted to use the stand for this microphone also. It has a very skinny stem. It has its own mic adaptor to match the stem, but it is designed for a large thread mic stand and this Moukey mic stand is a small thread (to keep it small and light). Inside the mic mount provided by Moukey, is an adpater from small thread to large thread: all I had to do was unscrew it from the Moukey adaptor and thread it into the adaptor for my e609 copy. I am very happy with this purchase, it works as well as anything a music store will sell you, but for a fraction of the price. I will defeintely tell my band mates about this.
