Very nice dehydrator. Works really well and it has a very good temperature range, which is easy to set. It has good air flow, which is super important. Also it's easy to clean. I bought the round one because I have another one and the trays are interchangeable. In my opinion never buy one without temperature settings.

I've had a few dehydrators over the years but the biggest issue I had was the time it took to make jerky. This was the main reason I held off on buying one for the last few years. The Nesco FD-61 made this issue a moot point. I've made 5 batches so far and the average time is 4 hours. The negative reviews seem to be about the fact the item doesn't have an on/off switch and there is no timer. I prefer it doesn't have an on/off switch so I don't forget to unplug it. As far as a timer, this works so quickly, you'll want to keep an eye on your food and not rely on a timer.The only issue I had (at first) was it only comes with 4 trays. I was going to order 4 more but after realizing how quickly this dehydrator works, I only orders 2 more. Yes having 8 trays would be nice, but I was worried about the whole thing getting knocked over by mistake. With 4 trays I can dehydrate about 2 pounds of sliced tri-tip at a time (more if I really wanted to really squish it in the tray. 6 racks will be perfect and Amazon has the trays with free Prime shipping.I can't wait for the spring when our fruit trees start producing to try out some other things but that is only a bonus. Definitely a 5 star item!

I've only had this for a month. Didn't want to waste a bumper crop of grape tomatoes so thought I would dehydrate them. WOW! I am not one to pop a grape tomato in my mouth, but I could eat the dehydrated tomatoes right out of the jar. I have dehydrated 4 batches of tomatoes, chives, oregano and basil. All came out perfect, though it did take longer for the chives to dehydrate than expected. It does make that "hair dryer on low" sound, but I just stuck it in the guest room. It is also very large. Think of where you might store it before purchasing. I am looking forward to dehydrating some pineapple and apples with this soon.

The Nesco FD-61 food dehydrator does an outstanding job for my dehydration needs. I bought this after my previous dehydrator (Nesco FD-60) finally stopped working after more than 20 years of use. So far, it works just as well, if not better. The jerky and fruits that I have dried have come out fairly uniform in consistency and drying time has been spot on with the guidelines in the instruction and recipe manual. I hope it lasts as long as my previous dehydrator!

This dehydrator is top notch for the money. I read the reviews, making note of people wanting timers, time tables in the instruction manual being incorrect and one that states they didn't like the hole in the middle, huh? That's where the fan blows hot air downward. As far as a timer and the manual being off on time tables, let me point out you don't need a timer and you don't want to rely on one. This dehydrator doesn't take days to finish, so if you have to leave the house or go to bed..unplug it. Use it when you can check on the progress. It's not a Crock Pot. As far as the time tables being off, take into consideration that people cut their foods into different thickness and a quarter inch differs from eye to eye. Humidity levels are different place to place and so many different factors are in play. So the time tables are only a guide and not the law. That's why you DON'T want to use a timer. This product can also be used WITHOUT electricity. Take the top motor off, cover the top of the trays with clear or black plastic and set in the sun. It's a great product and a good buy,
