Fit the Bill
One of three hard drives in my Dell desktop PC had died, and it had been discontinued. Robert, a technician at Altex Computers in San Antonio, found the exact match on Amazon, so I followed his lead and made the order. It had to be just the same as the others so he could configure the PC for Raid 5, as I asked. To make a long story short, the hard drive was a perfect fit, allowing the new configuration and even an OS upgrade from 32-bit XP to 64-bit Vista. My younger son, a videogamer and Hulu watcher, is very satisfied with the result. I consider it a minor miracle, and remain pleasantly surprised!

Horrible
I bought this drive to put in an enclosure for massive storage of course. The drive worked for a total of 3 hours. The drive ran super hot out of the case and in the case, I had to go so far as to place a freezer bag of sea salt, ice and water to cool the drive down while I was using it. (My enclosure is water tight on top, breaths through small openings on the bottom btw for those who might question that, lol)So far the drive has failed, so this was a terrible purchase, will not purchase from this seller again, do yourself a favor and just buy a new one. I got burned, save your money for new.

This review will be very much a mixed bag
This review will be very much a mixed bag. I ordered my 1st Hitachi HDS721010KLA330 1TB 7200rpm Internal 3.5-Inch Hard Drive from the Oceanside Store/amazon prime shipping 6/18/2014 received it on time and the item worked well, so much so I ordered a 2nd paid for next day delivery received it on time but item arrived with a defect. Set up return and being a diehard I ordered a replacement with a next day delivery upgrade on prime, It did not ship until the delivery estimate date 6/30/2014.Summery, it worked well and it did not work, it was delivered on time and it was late and paid extra for both options.Question: is it worth the gamble? Not for me. Buy the way the drive has a 2008 date and packed in a Oceanside Store box not a retail package with no information.Up date 7/1/2014 Received replacement and works great. Not as bad a gamble as stated in first review. I also added one more star.

Manufactured in Jan. 2008 and runs extremely hot
The drive I just received is dated Jan. 2008. I seriously doubt this is a "new" drive. Also, it gets extremely hot, too hot to touch. I connected mine on a work bench and without even using it, it got to 133 degrees Fahrenheit. It's been my experience that drives that run this hot don't last long. I won't be buying another one of these.

Refurbished-Quality Hard Drive with High Noise and Temp, Good read/write speed
I thought I was ordering a good drive for a sweet price, but you get what you pay for with this vendor. No software or connection wires came with this drive! Once I installed it and booted up the PC, the hard drive made it's presence known.Do you know the sound a turbine makes as it spins up? That is the noise that this hard drive produces every time I power up my system. The first time I was worried it was going to fail(or take off), and since I've only had it for about two days it still might. This Hitachi drive is the single loudest component of my system and every time the hard drive loads something it sounds like I dropped a fork in the garbage disposal, however the sound is usually brief. The speed seems to be decent and the capacity is good for the price. One thing to note is that this hard drive gets warm to the touch, so good airflow is recommended. If the drive holds out for a while, I will consider it a decent value.

Good product at a good price, and just a touch of flexibility built in!
I bought this drive to mirror against another 'seagate' 1 tb in a server I built. I wanted the redundant drives to be of different manufacturers to add just a little bit more safety. The drive was immediately recognized and works fine. One thing I did like more on the hitachi was that it has power inputs for both sata and molex connectors. Don't see that much anymore.

Replaced the drive in my NAS server and am back up and running.
Item was exactly as advertised. Replaced the drive in my NAS server and am back up and running. One caution is that these drives are ONLY covered by the Vendor's Warranty, not Hitachi.

wouldn't buy again
Once I finally managed to restore my OS from a backup image, it operated slower than molasses in January. I unfortunately deleted my image to make room for a new one, but it would have taken 45 days to make one at the speed it was running. I then tried installing linux, but that didn't work any better. Played around with it for a month, thinking I was doing something wrong. Then it started throwing input/output errors and I finally lost the use of it. Of course, by that time the window for return had long passed. Benchmarking showed nothing else wrong with the computer. Probably it was damaged in transit - it was rattling around in a box with one or two useless pieces of bubble wrap thrown in and doing nothing to cushion the drive.
