Q: Do these strips test free chlorine or total chlorine?

These Test Strips Measure Total Chlorine. You could use Bleach or Chlorine from multiple manufacturers to prepare your sanitizing solution and this test strips will work to test that solution. Please be aware that our test strips will NOT react to undiluted chlorine.

Q: Why does your test range go so high? Chlorine levels up to 4ppm are considered safe. Your ranges above 25 don't matter

Free range Chlorine from 2ppm-7ppm are considered safe. This is chlorine waiting and ready to kill bacteria. Total chlorine is what these test strips test for. Total chlorine is chlorine basically currently being used to kill bacteria and free range together. Total chlorine is always going to be higher than free chlorine readings. Not to mention that Ph affects chlorine. Ranges above 25ppm do matter because a Ph of 8 in a water source can affect the dissolving of chlorine and take 2 times longer to kill bacteria than a water ph of 7.0

Q: I am wanting test strips that will show if there is any chlorine in my drinking and shower water. Will the 0 range show there is no chlorine?

The test strips I use show if there is 0 chlorine in my hot tub. I'm not sure about drinking water. But I believe that 0 in the hot tub means no cholrine at all.

Q: Will this test hypochlorous acid solutions for concentration (ie what % or ppm my hocl solution is)?

I could not get this to work on hydrochlorous acid, though some reviews say it worked for them. Not sure why as my solution was a known 500 ppm.
