Schaum's 3,000 Solved Problems in Calculus (Schaum's Outlines)

Good for Calc 1-3
I got this during my Calc 2 class to brush up and do better in my classes. I do love that you get step by step solved rather then just a blank answer.

Indispensable study aid
This book is a perfect compliment to my calculus textbook. I'm able to review the concepts in the textbook, but the text book lacks sufficient problems to become truly proficient in solving all of the myriad problem types you are expected to solve in Calculus. Once I'm familiar with a concept, I can open the relevant portion of this book, and just go down the page solving problems. The solution is immediately below the problem, so I use a folded piece of paper as I work though to keep the solution hidden. All of the solutions have made sense so far, and the book is *very* thorough in its coverage of problem types. I have even seen certain problem types not covered by the textbook that I now know how to solve. This book will not teach you the concepts of calculus, but accompanying a textbook it will help you master them. A must have for the serious student. As an aside, I use a little 8x11 inch whiteboard for solving problems on as opposed to pencil and paper. Makes the problem solving quicker, imho.

Font
Since there are no images, I wanted to provide one. Most importantly showing what the font looks like. I think it is right on the very edge of being two small, it also doesn't look that good in my opinion. It looks like someone with very good handwriting wrote it on some copy paper, then scanned it and sent it off to the publisher. That said, I still think it is a great book and an excellent resource and I will be buying their other Calculus book as well.

Buy it!!!
This book, along with the others in the "3000 Solved Problems" series, are wonderful. I needed calculus as a prerequisite for some science courses I wanted to take, although I never took a calculus course. I spent months going through various books, along with MIT's OCW video series, teaching myself. I had a pretty good foundation of the concepts, but eventually realized that I needed to solved a LOT of problems in order to realize the various applications of those concepts.Calculus, along with other quantitative subjects (chemistry, physics), has relatively few concepts but unlimited applications. This book will very quickly show you many of those applications and improve your problem solving skills. After working with this book for a week or two, I felt that my skills had improved more than with any other book I had used. Shortly thereafter, I took the Calculus CLEP course and scored a near perfect score. I credit that to this book. If you want to do well in calculus, get this book, a large stack of notebook paper, some sharp pencils, and a lot of time. You will succeed.

Useful book
If you want to practice calculus- I would recommend this book and by the time you are done with 3000 questions on calculus you would feel you have mastered it and easily pass the exams. For calculus I would highly recommend this book

Very good book
I loved this book. They almost never gave you a problem that they didn't give you the components to solve already, and everything build off of the other stuff. Very intuitive and logical progression of teaching you things.Only caveat is the differential equations. It seems like they tried to fit an entire book into this 1 chapter, and they didn't really explain things very well, just so they could say this book covered differential equations. If you want differential equations, get the actual differential equations book by Schaum's.

Excellent source for practice problems.
This book isn't a study guide, it's a book of practice problems. This book is for you if you understand the concepts and want more practice applying them. There are worked-out solutions for every problem, so if you get stuck you can see what the next step should be.If you are looking for supplemental instruction, this is not the right book. In that case you should look at the Humongous Book of Calculus Problems, and/or Jason Gibson's DVD. But once you have figured out how to do the problem, you are still going to want this book for the practice. If you are a serious math student and want to understand Calculus, rather than just get through it, this is a must-have.

Calculus Practice
This book is the best practice, and review of calculus that I could hope for. It is not a teaching book, and the basic idea of methods should be learned before starting each chapter, but even the most rudimentary idea of how to get started will be fine. Once you get going with a chapter it progresses it's level of difficulty, but they are all just as easy since you ease your way into the next problem. I highly recommend this for anyone who is taking a calculus class, and wants to be ready for the next test.PS: The person I bought from was very reliable, and the front cover has a slight crease in it, but other than that the book was in pristine condition!
