Resurrection!
See my modified review at the bottom of this post.I don't like writing this review - but Anker asked me to. Really good company on customer service. This unit was effectively DOA. This does not say the product is bad - just the one I received.Connected fine, but the volume was so low as to be unusable. Music sounded OK if you are within three feet of the speaker.Even the connection - disconnection beeps were so soft you had to hold the unit to your ear to hear them. Reset did not help.Same problem on multiple sources, including my Moto X cell phone.I love the shape, size, and the appearance. Unfortunately, I also need one that works.I love Anker battery products. Just not wireless speakers so much.Amazon is wonderful as usual on returns - this went back the same day and Amazon refunded my charge before they received it.I wound up ordering a different brand - arrives Monday.Note - when you check reviews - look at the low ratings first. All brands of Bluetooth speakers seem to have a number of DOAs.Because of my experience, Anker contacted me. They offered to send me another, complementary, speaker to make up for the oneI received. It came today, and fully justified my reasons for choosing this speaker. Volume is great, Bass is great, and it connected to my cell phone from 40 feet away on a different floor.I am changing my rating. 5 for the speaker build quality and sound, down rated to 3 for shipping me a dead one initially.Bumped back to 5 based on the really incredible Anker customer service (Thanks Elle!).I really wish more companies were like this.

***I have used this Speaker for a week now (10/22/2016) and I love this thing!!!***
***I have used this Speaker for a week now (10/22/2016) and I love this thing!!!***First off, before I purchased this, I only bought cheap Bluetooth speakers from a particular Big Box store. They have always caused problems, and I love technology, but for the longest time I've never used Bluetooth for anything; So I was a bit skeptical about purchasing a speaker for more than $20. I've heard of Anker before because their portable batteries get high praise from some of the Tech news I follow. So I bit the bullet and bought a more expensive speaker. Here are my experiences and what I use it for.I work at a large Super Market in Receiving, So I'm in a rather large back room with all the merchandise and loading docks and all that. Our store plays the lamest music on the overhead speakers, and I'd noticed some of the workers in other departments had portable speakers of their own. In the other departments the music isn't too loud, but in the back since the ceiling is at least 30ft high and not a whole lot of walls, the music sounds louder in the back. With this speaker, my music completely drowns out the lame music, but i can still hear pages over the loudspeaker. I can be almost anywhere in the backroom and can hear my music. I use an old Moto E as an Mp3 player, but I use the headphone jack to the AUX in on the speaker with the included cable. I subscribe to Google Play Music, so what I do is download some Playlists for offline and then put it in Airplane Mode so as to not waste the phone's tiny battery. Speaking of batteries, the battery life on this speaker is incredible. my usual workday is 8 1/2 to 9 hours, and my second use for the speaker is about another hour. With the volume at 100%, if I get home and forget to charge it, it still gets me through the next day. The main reason I bought this one instead of the 20w one the sell is because of the advertised battery life, and I have to say this baby delivers and then some.My second use for this speaker is for when I work out. One of the parks in my town has a 1/4 mile walking trail and free workout equipment, and the place is deserted by the time I get off work in the morning. So what I do is setup my speaker by the equipment, crank up my music, go for a quick jog, and then workout for about an hour. I can hear it the whole jogging trail, unless it's a very windy day.And I have used it paired to Bluetooth a bit with my primary phone. I use it that way while I'm walking around the house and my phone's in my pocket or in the other room. The quality over Bluetooth sounds fine to me, but I have rarely used it this way so I'm no expert about it long term.So here is my list of pros and cons for the Anker A7909 10w Portable Wireless Speaker:Pros:*The battery life is absolutely amazing!*The amount of sound this thing puts out is enormous for it's small size.* It's dead simple to use, and even more so with the Aux cable.* The carrying bag it comes wih is nice, it fits the speaker, cable, and the Moto E no problem.Con:* I have only one con and it's so minor its not even really a con, just a suggestion for maybe future products (not just Anker, other companies too).I really really wish that instead of just an LED light as a power indicator, that there were little LCD screens on everything that showed the exact battery percentage. That would be the greatest, and I wouldn't think it would cost very much for all companies to do, but I wouldn't know for sure because I don't manufacture things, but its just an idea I've had.In closing if you've managed to make it this far, I think this speaker is worth every penny. Sure the 20w model was only $5 more, but in my experience this little puppy is quite loud enough, and the battery life is a thing of dreams. Is this thing for audiophiles looking for the highest fidelity out of everything at all times no matter what? Who knows and who cares. I have a billion things to worry about and my music sounding exactly as it did when the artist recorded it is not one of them. But if you're looking for a speaker that can get loud and last a long time doing it, look no further because here it is. this thing's a beast and I couldn't recommend it more.

Good sound, but why does a Bluetooth speaker need a learning curve?
Pros: Really good sound, great finish out and packagingCons: No auto shut off, no way to tell visually if speaker is on or off, will not run off a power cord alone, controls are quirky at best, really short cords includedI bought this speaker myself on sale at Amazon for $36. I am receiving no compensation for this review in any way.TLDR: I like the sound. Having to figure out the quirks of the controls was annoying. YMMV.I bought this to use as a computer speaker replacement, which I know now was not the best use of this product. If you leave the unit plugged in, it will discharge the battery as if it was not plugged in and you must unplug it and plug it back in to recharge it again. On my particular unit, the light on the back is off if the unit is charged adequately, the light is on solidly if the unit is charging and the light flashes if the battery is fully charged and the charger is still plugged in. If the unit needs to be charged, the power button on the side flashes red. This unit is supposed to make a noise at power up and power down. Sometimes mine does and sometimes it does not. It is difficult to tell if you have powered the unit off or on and sometimes I have to attempt to power it up or down several times to determine what state it is in.The volume buttons are peculiar as well, I find that pumping mine up and down is the only way to change the volume, pressing and holding does not work.I paired it with my iPhone 6 Plus once it and it worked as described. I can't comment on the battery life since I manage to leave it on when I walk away and have no idea how long it has been on.

Great portable speaker
I purchased this product for the great battery life and was not disappointed. I purchased the product at the beginning of this past summer. I'm always impressed with how long it goes without needing a recharge. The sound out the this little guy is pretty good, especially for the price. I'm sure that you can get better sounding speakers out there but for the purpose of throwing on some tunes while you're playing a little footy at the park it's perfect. I bought this product to chuck in my bag when I'm heading out the the beach, park, etc. It has stood up to my abuse very well, especially on a particularly rowdy car camping trip when I found it in a puddle of beer in the morning. On the technical side of things the controls are very easy to use. Big buttons on the top and side are hard to miss. The NFC functionality makes pairing really quick. The volume can be controlled via Bluetooth on your device or manually on the top of the speaker. The sound quality is decent, it's not distorted and there is some bass. They sound a lot better inside where the sound is contained. Simply charging with a micro USB on the back side. There is a red LED on the back that lights up when the battery is low and when it's charging. There's a hookup for an AUX in the back as well. Other Bluetooth speakers I've used have a voice that comes on telling you when a device isn't connected which I find very annoying. This speaker does not have that.I'd definitely recommend this speaker, it's great battery life makes it great for travelling and at a fraction of the cost of a set of Bose you can't lose.

If you are looking for a decent sounding Bluetooth speaker ...
If you are looking for a decent sounding Bluetooth speaker at a reasonably low price, then this is the one you should go for. It produces an impressive room filling sound with sufficient base. The only thing this lacks is a next or previous button.

Either a poor product or a fake unit
I bought two of these at double the US price and sadly the products turned out to be very poor. One of them stopped working while the other lost its sound volume over a year and the battery never lasts more than 4 to 5 hours.

and all around sound is average at best.
Decent for the money, but certainly not for audiophiles. The low end is very cloudy, and all around sound is average at best.Their customer service however, was outstanding at dealing with my issues around my purchase.
