Pretty decent gaming laptop.
Pros:Pretty decent for gaming. I still haven't test the fps for gaming, but this is a large step up for me from a gt610m and i5 laptop.I was able to play Wolfenstein: the New Order with medium settings with a decent frame rate. In case if you don;t know, gtx950m is a pretty decent laptop graphics card(the 9 stands for its generation, and the 5 stands for its rank(1 is the lowest and 8(as for now) is the highest) in the generation).Cons:My unit was defective though, the power button doesn't light up. However, I know it is not possible for every unit to be perfect in for mass productions. The keyboard, similar to other of the X series, bends in slightly when you put pressure on it. However, it does not affect the longevity of the keyboard. My other laptop, x550la, also did just perfectly fine. In my opinion, the slightly bendy keyboard made the actuation force smaller. To me, it's not that big of a concern.Although Adorama delayed three days for my shipment, it is at least a trustworthy shop in New York.

Works great! This laptop runs all my elder scroll games
Works great! This laptop runs all my elder scroll games, saits row 4, and fallout 4. Fallout 4 though has to be on the lowest graphic setting or it crashes but that's fine with me since I'll be getting a desktop for more high performance gaming.

This replacement is great. No touch screen
Had a Lenovo touch screen that after two years I gave up using. This replacement is great. No touch screen, but that really was not useful for everyday school work.

An almost-but-not-quite perfect laptop
Overall this is a very nice laptop, but there are a few frustrating drawbacks that make it less than perfect. I've had it for 4 months and I use it for animation and vfx, running hardware hungry programs like Cinema 4D and After Effects.PROS:- This is a powerful computer. As I mentioned before I use it for video editing and animation. I pushed it pretty hard on a recent project and it powered through. I should note that I generally don't render this laptop, but it did pre-renders pretty well.- Big screen, high resolution and high quality.- Rarely overheats.- Free upgrade to Windows 10, which I prefer over Windows 8.- Speakers are pretty good, not amazing, but I am able to hear most frequencies clearly. The sound card is very good though and when I plug in good headphones or external speakers, it sounds great.CONS:- The biggest is the low battery life. On battery it only lasts around 2-3 hours. Also keep in mind that the charger is pretty enormous, which could be negative for some people.- The "2 second instant turn on" is not true. If the lid is closed for too long the computer goes to sleep. Upon opening the lid, you actually have to press the On button to wake it up, and it takes a bit of time.- I personally don't like the trackpad. The area that registers as a right click is bigger than you would expect, so I often right click by mistake.- This is quite nitpicky, but the volume buttons are function commands of the f10-f12 keys. This means that in order to change the volume you need to hold the fn button while changing the volume. This is annoying because the buttons are far apart on the keyboard which means I can not change the volume with only one hand.- I also find a few bugs every so often. I'm not sure if they are a fault of the computer itself or the operating system. Nothing major, though.FINAL THOUGHTSThis is a great high-end laptop for creative professionals, gamers, and the like. Although the cons seem to outweigh the pros, I still am very happy with this laptop. I do, however, still find myself occasionally frustrated that a new $750 laptop would have some of the slight issues.4/5 Stars.

Okay, but not great.
For the price it could be better. The laptop has all good hardware the date I purchased it. The graphics card ad processor are as good as some of the more expensive laptops. As soon as I purchased my I upgraded the ram to 12 gigs. My biggest complaint was the hard drive is slow. During everyday usage and gaming I was being slowed by the hard drive speed. I should upgrade to a solid state drive, but that's more cost and requires re installing my operating system to be effective. Second drawback is the keyboard and touchpad. The touchpad is huge yet it doesn't seem to perform well. Also, if you put pressure on certain part of the laptop then it wont work at all since the whole laptop flexes so easily. My last laptop was a Republic of Gamers Asus which cost a similar amount. I liked it a lot more even though it had a slower processor and graphics card.

Good Laptop for collage students..
Bought it for my son who is studying in collage.....He will be using this Laptop mainly for 3D CAD software, MATLAB and Analysis tools. He installed few of these software and he is happy with the performance and the screen quality...Boot in 10-12 second which is really fast.....missing back-lit keyboard but has full size keyboard (includes number keys)

and got worse over time
It's a very powerful laptop, definitely worth the money I spent on it. Powers through many computationally heavy tasks and gaming. My graphics card died after just about a year of use, so I RMA'd the unit and got a motherboard replacement free of charge (thanks Asus!). Another concern is the battery life. It lasts just 2 hours of use off the battery, and got worse over time. Eventually (a year and a half) the battery just refused to charge, so I had to buy a replacement. If you intend to use this for studying etc, I would recommend bringing the charger. For LAN parties and hackathons though, it's great. The screen is pretty cheap, the colors are quite "washed out". For my needs (programming, gaming, video editing) this wasn't a big deal, but if you care about things like watching movies/TV or editing photos or doing digital drawing, that could be a concern. Overall, good value.
