Seems to be a brand new Surface 6
When you choose to purchase a refurbished item, you subject yourself to the luck of the draw. A tip of the hat to Amazon for at least grading each renewed item into one of three categories. I chose to purchase the top category which is "Excellent Condition," and indeed it is. The Surface 6 that I received is like new in every way except the packaging. The packaging is very good, but not the original box. Most importantly, the Surface 6 works perfectly and I cannot find even one small scratch on it. Your mileage may vary, but I think if you stick with "excellent condition'" then you'll be well satisfied. If not, you can take advantage of Amazon's generous return policy.

Old USB-A Port, Not New USB-C
This is a review for the i5-8GB-128GB model, renewed. It's a Surface Pro 6, so it doesn't have the newer USB-C connection - but that's fine for me, as I find USB-A just a little more convenient (bearing in mind that this isn't a primary computer for my family, but a casual tablet). Also, please note the price - I got this for a mite under $500, which makes it exceptional value today (early 2020), blowing the ~$400 Surface Go out of the water.Mine was "renewed" from Mastertronics, and everything looked good. The box had some rather large stickerage on it to make it clear it was renewed. Out of the box it wanted to run first-time W10 setup. After that, checking the battery showed that it had been cycled seven times already (good! Not EXCELLENT, but good!).There's not really much else to say that hasn't been covered by countless SP6 reviews. These renewed ones come without the excellent Type Cover or stylus, it's worth noting. It's a lovely, premium-feeling slab of tablet, without being too heavy (I can't even feel it in my backpack when it goes there in place of my ~2.1KG Acer R7-571 laptop). Battery life is good. So... that's it! $500 is such a bargain for a quality little machine like this, and in my case, the "renewed" version was completely problem-free.

This vendor sells broken junk.
I purposely bought this Microsoft Surface Pro 6 tablet as an "Amazon Renewed" product with an "Excellent" condition rating. (Why a Surface Pro 6? It's the oldest Surface Pro that can run Windows 11.)This tablet was neither properly "Renewed" nor was it "Excellent". This vendor didn't do the minimal checks needed. This isn't a "mistake": it is incompetence bordering on fraud. What was wrong with this product?1. There was no battery. The tablet worked ONLY when plugged in. Pulling the plug caused an IMMEDIATE shutdown. This alone makes the "Excellent Condition" statement a terrible joke.2. The Windows 10 installation was NOT the one for a Microsoft Surface product. Which any sane "factory refurbishment" process would ensure was present (the correct image is available from Microsoft). The Windows 10 install wasn't even COMPLETE, as the Recovery Partition was TOTALLY ABSENT. This made it EXTREMELY DIFFICULT for me to remove all my information before returning the unit. No, the OS was not even close to being "Renewed".3. There was a glass screen protector installed that was partially lifted away. It did not look like a Microsoft product. Removing it would have improved the product. Keeping it again further degrades the laughable "Excellent" condition statement.Visually, the device looked great. No appearance issues (other than the screen protector). But that was the only good thing about it. The rest was a disaster.I did contact Amazon Support about this, and the support person offered to connect me directly to the vendor, which I most certainly did not want, as I could not trust them to deliver what they describe. The support person let me escalate my issue, and the manager gave me an account credit for my troubles, which easily covered the cost difference between this unit and its replacement. Amazon Support did a good job. My Amazon Prime membership helped prevent problems with the return.I looked at the prices for a battery replacement service and the correct factory Windows 10 image, and it would have cost as much as this entire tablet.Update: Two other things.1. The tablet arrived with a neoprene slipcover. Nice touch, right? No, not really. It was sized for a smaller tablet, not for something as large as the Surface Pro. Another sign that the vendor WAS NOT paying attention!2. My replacement tablet (from a different vendor) arrived, and it included not only the correct Windows install for the Surface Pro, but was also packaged in Original Microsoft Packaging. The tablet from this vendor came rolled up in about 3 yards of bubble wrap. Again, not the sign of a TRUE refurbished product. If I could give zero stars or negative stars, I would. I spent many hours getting the first one setup before realizing the battery was useless. Then I had to put in more hours to remove everything, as it lacked the Windows OS Recovery Partition needed to do a quick and easy System Reset. And finally, I had to pack it all up again and take it to UPS for the return. This vendor has been a total waste of time AND money.

Highly recommended
Great product, with no risky details or poor handling. The short battery life is expected and doesn’t make a positive or negative difference.

Refurb Device Pristine with factory power supply
I ordered an "Amazon Renewed" refurbished unit sold by Out Of This World Electronics and am delighted! It came with a professional replacement box and a factory charging cable neatly boxed up inside. The device is like new. The only indicateation I've been able to find it had ever been handled is a nearly invisible tiny scuff to the finish at one corner you can't even see from a foot away. Otherwise the unit seems to be in pristine condition.
