e61 Flow control Device offers: Simple, straightforward installation Compatible with virtually all Profitec, ECM, Rocket (incl. R58), Lelit Mara/Mara X, and other well-known brands/models (Please note that although the Coffee Sensor FCD may work for other machines not listed, we cannot guaranteed it will be compatible with those machines). Uses a special needle valve that allows the user to adjust water flow rate into the GH (e.g. long pre-infusions for higher extraction/saturation) Bottom group stronger spring for canceling the pre-infusion. Coffee Sensor Flow Control Device kit includes: Stainless steel flow device constructed with a brass screw to prevent corrosion Two unique handles, both 100% compatible with all E61 machines Grouphead pressure gauge (0-16 bars) Full-length installation guide and servicing manual What does the e61 Flow control Device offer me? Long pre-infusion—as long as you want! Control your flow rate—full power for darker roasts or gentle pre-infusion for lighter roasts Extract like a lever-machine—you control how many bars you want Experiment with coarser grinds using immersion techniques Proper/Safe Use (Please read carefully) 1. NEVER install or uninstall while the machine is warm. Let it cool down 100%. And always unplug the electric socket. 2. Set the pump pressure somewhere between 9-10 bars. If it's already set to that amount, you're good to go. 3. Determine the OEM flow rate of your machine BEFORE installing the flow device. How? Before installation, run the water for 10-20 seconds and measure how many milliliters or grams of water come out per second. 4. Installing the manometer. It is very important that you do not touch the face/glass , finger-tighten (using tools could cause irreparable damage) the manometer onto the grouphead. Tighten until you feel resistance, and make sure the front of the manometer is facing horizontal. You don't have to screw the manometer all the way to the end of the thread.

Wonderful upgrade with a caveat.
Fairly simple to install. Follow the included instructions and watch out for worn gaskets. Use the included replacements if your machine's are worn.Look, this is flow control for an E61. It's not going to turn your venerable Hx machine into a Decent, nor give you anywhere near the level of precision of the Linea paddle or the Decent, but...What it is going to do is allow you to control the flow during the shot to minimize channeling. You can tinker with various profile curves that you'll find online to imitate, say, a lever machine, or whatever, but what I end up doing the most is starting out the shot choked down to a quarter for 15 seconds as pressure builds, then, just as flow begins, I crank it open a couple turns, and when the drink weight hits 10g (for a 40g pull) I choke the pressure down to, like 6 or 7 bars to reduce channeling. This works nicely and produces a nice, sweet shot.I've upgraded two machines with this device and, until I can afford a Linea or a Decent or similar (probably never :( ), this improvement to my brewing is welcome and enjoyable. It does take a while to get used to manipulating the valve while brewing. I jokingly compare brewing with an Hx machine and this valve to running a steam locomotive, at least that's kind of what I imagine that experience would be like.Cheers and happy brewing, -- Netizen

Blew away all expectations.
I cannot believe how great this is. I was skeptical due to the low price tag but this works great. I'm not going to go into how to use because you should go to home-barista to learn that. Just know that if you know your stuff, this can elevate your espresso to incredible heights. I was amazed the precision exceeded even my modded BDB. Although I use this on a DB machine, I would successfully use it on a HX as well. You just have to be able to adjust the pstat or PID and maybe employ a thermosiphon restrictor to change the hot/cold mix to get repeatable, predictable temperature stability in your shots. You might have to go back and forth between a group head thermometer and the included pressure gauge for a little while. You also might not be able to adjust it as much in real time as the DB users but I would still successfully use it on HX machines. Also, the handle is keyed and can slide on and off (good thing) so you don't have to worry about it ever getting too hot if that's an issue. They also include a stronger spring if your rotary pump needs that modification. I have only tested it on a vibe so far. Disclaimer: I have used/repaired close to 20 machines from about 10 different manufacturers so I'm not a typical user.

It works well, but you need to know more than the instructions offer
First, this is a good product. It eliminates squirting and appreciates the flavor profile. It is a good value.Based on the provided instructions, it lacks everything you need to know. And not every Amazon customer with a 58 or 61 grouphead will understand. The installation instructions should be printed twice larger or offer a legible pdf. Coffee Sensor's website is incomplete as well. No video on this or help with my points. One of the installation instructions poses a contradiction -- "dont remove the (existing) spring" and "use the strong spring provided." Also, not everyone knows what a blind basket is when testing the gauge. The presence of the gauge is really so you can calibrate the lever to the bar pressure - that fact is missing and it's important to say. (There are better methods of flow calibration - go to Whole Latte Love on YouTube). There are extra o-rings, but for whom? Why not include who those are for or some people might add them and struggle to install. It took some searching on the internet to fully comprehend what-if-where-and-why -- and after 6 wasted shots I finally figured this out with help from Whole Latte Love on YouTube. I had to scan my paper instructions at a very high resolution (1200 dpi) just to magnify the type large enough to read with my glasses. What keeps this Amazon product from 5 stars is that it leans heavily on assumptions of all the points I mention above. If you know what you're doing, buy it. If you don't you have some searching to do. I have attached my hi-rez scan of the instrux.

Love it!
Ok, I have never felt compelled to write a review, but this thing is great. Shipping took four days from Romania? Crazy! I don't have it dialed in yet, but I will enjoy playing with this for years to come. Coffee nerds pay the extra three bucks to upgrade shipping and have fun.also there is a guy that wrote a review after me that sounds like he has no clue what's going on. Time is not as important of a factor with flow control, and if you are doing a preinfusion and still have the shot come out in 22 seconds it's because it's under extracted not the flow that your shots are sour. I feel bad that people don't do research and then blow up reviews. I own the same rocket apartamento no pid having HX machine and it works quite well. Take his review with a grain of salt as this thing is awesome. And I'm grinding much finer with preinfusion and getting higher extractions, which is not always better, but having the ability to do it and try with other coffees is great. Anyone new read about flow control and hx machines and make your own decision, Whole Latte Love sells HX machines pre installed by the truckload.
