Bought 2 of these for a Silverstone 4U Rackmount case. It installed very easily, and the build quality seems solid. It's nice to be able to open a bay, pop a drive in and close the bay without having the mount the drive in a tray. The only downside really is the price. For that cost of 1 of these I could have bought 2 Rosewill or other cheap brand. But these certainty seem to be worth the extra money.

Overall, this is a solid enclosure but it leaves a few improvements desired. The front drive doors are OK, so I'm not sure what other reviews are complaining about. Are you slamming the drives into the enclosure? I hope not, because this is plastic and you should take care in inserting your drives to meet the SATA connectors in the back. Just take your time and pay attention. Now, the fan is garbage. G A R B A G E. I pulled it from the enclosure and swapped it for an Arctic PWM fan which now is controlled by my board based on the HDD temps. Low HDD temps? Low fan speed and low noise. However, getting a slightly larger fan to fit may require a dremel and/or drill bit to enlarge the screw holes on your fan shroud, but after you get the screws to fit, all is well. Dont worry about damaging your fan since the fan case will fit back over whichever fan you reinstall, for a nicer OEM look. My fan barely hums along when all is well. Air flow is adequate enough for when your drives get hot and I can feel the hot air flow when the fan is running at 2400 rpm. I push air inside out to balance my overall case flow but YMMV.

Looks good, quality isn’t as good as I’ve come to expect from Silverstone. It’s pricey for what you get but I’m adding more drives to an silverstone rm41-h08 which already has an FS 305 built in so I guess I’ll just have to be careful with them while installing /swapping drives.

used this to build a small NAS server using an old Cooler Master case. the fan could be better but it's in a separate room so not a big deal. might need to do some small modifications to the case you want to use, but it does fit nicely into 3 5.25 bays.

I use 2 of these in my NAS server running Unraid. I’ve been experiencing intermittent read errors on any disk placed in one of the slots (the 2nd from the left). I’ve troubleshooted with different cables and drives, but it’s clear that the issue lies with this backplane. Disappointing, as it’s an expensive product for home users. I would not recommend or buy again.

Very nice drive bay; there is some play when inserting the drives make sure they are seated correctly before you try and fasten down the latch or you might break the plastic latch system or your connections on the drive. Works as it should; drive temps are about low 90s F is using mechanical. Fan is pretty quite. LED lights look to be working as intended. One thing I would recommend to people is don't use and L shaped SATA cables; The connections above the fan would put a lot of strain in the cable. I had to replace a few cables and then everything started reading correctly.

I've been using Supermicro CSE-M35Ts but it seems they are discontinued. If you can find those at a decent price, just buy those with some quiet slim fans and make your life easy. As for this, well its from Silverstone, so one might imagine it would come with a Silverstone fan, preferably a quiet one, right? Nope, some YLTC slim 80mm fan that is 1990s loud. Ok, so they cut corners on the fan, no biggie, fan replacement is par for the course anyway and this is Silverstone, they are a case modding friendly kind of company, this should be easy. Nope. 1) Fan is mounted on cheap plastic screw stands that split in half when you look at it hard (I only have 2 left after trying to replace the fan). 2) The screw/screw hole is non-standard, nothing in my hoard of thousands of computer screws matches it AND the head of the screw is too small to swap the included shroud with a fan grill. 3) The connector for the fan is one of those old 3-pin audio cables that you used to use to connect your CD-rom drive to the motherboard/sound card and there is no room around the connector to use a 4 pin instead (in case you had a dozen of those lying around like I did). So that was an incredibly annoying nightmare and, again, just cheap and low quality throughout. However, that was my struggle like 4-5 months ago. I came back to write this review because, like the other reviewer Kyle Thomas, the plastic ejection thing has broke. Obviously, my advice here is to run far away from this piece of cheap, plasticky garbage. I'm going to give the Istar or Norco a try next.

I had an issue with SATA TOSHIBA 18TB and 16TB not being able to detect them, only 4 ports were detected.
