Must read for educators and all interested in cognitive science.
Book Review for “The Intelligence Trap”, by Dave RobsonWhy do seemingly intelligent people believe in ideas that are not supported by the facts? How could it be that the more intelligent you are the more likely you are to fall into a cognitive trap? Answers to these questions and many more are the subject of the new book, The Intelligence Trap (March, 2019), by David Robson. The Intelligence Trap, is a great read covering many of the most recent findings on what constitutes intelligence and how having a high IQ is no guarantee of reaching the correct conclusion. Indeed, it is a fact that the greater your intellect the more likely you are to fall into a mental trap. The book also explores how incorporating these ideas into the educational system could provide for more positive outcomes.Starting with a look at the Intelligence Quotient (IQ), the author then introduces the reader to other measures of understanding such as an Emotional and Wisdom Quotient. Next the author ruminates on the important concepts of curiosity and growth mindset and how these relate to brain power. The author also explains the different forms of memory and how these affect overall intelligence. While this is all fascinating material, The Intelligence Trap is also a practical guide as it provides concrete steps for individuals and groups on avoiding different cognitive traps. The downside of many of these books is that while the subject is extremely interesting, the text often has the ability to put me to sleep. Fortunately, Mr. Robson is an able author and keeps the discussion on individual topics short and memorable with current anecdotes adding spice to the story.A must read for all educators and anyone with an interest in cognitive science or personal development.

David Robson Needs to Read His Own Book
A book that has some insightful information but horribly politically biased. It's sad when one-sided politics needs to be added by an author to impress friends, editors and the non-critically thinking public.
