Well Made, Beautiful Bag - Brilliant Design!
For some time I’ve been wanting to pick up another sleeping bag for car camping, but kept going back and forth about the best temperature range for my needs. When I saw the Northface Dolomite 1 I was intrigued as I have never seen this kind of multi-use bag before. I was a little skeptical about having interlocking bags with multiple zippers as it seemed a bit cumbersome, and I questioned whether the multi-use concept was too good to be true. But I decided to take a chance, and am very pleased that i did. The bag is very good quality and the color scheme is beautiful. I was initially befuddled by the zipper system, but quickly puzzled it out and can now reconfigure the bag to any one of the three options in a minute or two. I also like the fact that the individual panels can be used separately as throw blankets. My super compact down Northface Blue Kazoo is still serving me well after 30+ years and is my main bag for backpacking, so the much bulkier Dolomite 1 will serve out its life in the back of my Jeep. I really don’t see any downside to this bag, and highly recommend it. Northface even added a velcro flap closure at the bottom of the bag to seal the area where all the zippers converge, so heat loss at the foot of the bag should be negligible.

Excellent 3 season bag!
I’ve been a North Face customer for over 30+ years and have tested the limits of their products. I’ve never been disappointed in the performance or quality of their products. This sleeping bag is a perfect 3 season bag and suits my needs. There really is no bad weather, just poorly designed, constructed and marketed outdoor clothing and gear.

Versatile but bulky
This is the most-versatile sleeping bag around, with a wide temperature range depending on which layers you use. But it is quite bulky. For me, it was a good choice, as I am planning to use it at a fixed camping site at a festival. It would not be a great choice for backpacking. I would consider it more suited to glamping.

Testing and some modification proved an excellent product
I am 5'9" and weigh 205 pounds. I sleep on an 8" air mattress. Night #1--It got down to 35 F and my back was very cold. I had to put on my down jacket to get warm. My legs and feet were ok even without socks on. You have 2 move 2 zippers to open and close which was very cumbersome. I have an older 25 F Kelty, and my back was never this cold. I was going to return this until I reconfigured the placement of the layers. Night #2-- I put the thick layer on top and the 2 thinner layers together, this allowed me to sleep on top of the 2 layers and have the thick as my top layer. Also, doing this only required 1 zipper to get in. (I'm not sure why North Face didn't think of this, but it is much better this way. The intended way is to sleep on top of only 1 thin layer which doesn't make sense.) Much better in 30 F! Night #3--I replaced the 8" air mattress with a 2" self inflating pad and that proved to make all the difference at this temperature. I stayed very warm and comfortable. I highly recommend this bag, but cannot stress enough that you need a good pad which helps insulate you from the cold underneath. I purchased the long, and glad I did. With my CPAP, I can get way down inside the bag and sleep wonderfully now that I reconfigured the layers and got a decent pad. I'm now ready for my motorcycle trip to Colorado! Anything worth having is worth the time to modify. Nothing is easy :) Safe travels and adventures to All!

Long enough but not wide enough
North face did a great job in making a long version of this sleep system, however they need to make a long and extra wide version. Not all of us are 5'5" emaciated vegans. I'm 6'2" and a big guy. I can get both of my arms into the bag but it's very tight. Please make an long/wide version of this bag and it will be golden. The extra sheets don't have an underneath layer. I guess they did that in order to keep the weight down.I love the concept. I'd rather an USGI MSS however I cannot find a long version of that system, thanks army for thinking everyone is short. I don't think this system will keep you warm and toasty at 15 degrees IMHO. Time will tell.

Not bad.
I would give five stars and probably should. It keeps me warm in all of the weird weather in the southeast US and is very comfortable, but when it's all together for the warmest it is a little bulky. It's a little hard to zip sometimes because the material gets in the way but other than that it's fine. Overall a good product and worth the price.
