After single-handedly kick-starting Gangsta Rap with 1987's Rhyme Pays, Ice-T went metal in 1992 with Body Count who's self-titled debut ended with "Cop Killer". This track caused alot of controversy back in the day, to the extended that Time-Warner had the song deleted in subsequent pressings of the album. Now with a new studio album, MURDER 4 HIRE provides a profound reminder of just how far Body count will continue to go to expose their version of the truth.

"Murder 4 Hire" (Body Count)
After 10 years, thank God for a new album from Body Count. In my opinion, along with Bob Dylan's "Modern Times" and Neil Young's "Living With War", this is one of the most significant discs of the decade. Ice-T is as angry and refreshing as ever; "End Game" reminds me of the rage of Dylan's "Masters of War" from the '60's. The merging of hard core gansta rock and roll with outrage on behalf of those humans that don't believe politics is worth killing and dying for has been desperately needed for these times. I was a little disappointed that the final number is an instrumental, but the album holds up extremely well to repeated listening and I am grateful that Body Count has survived despite the loss of several key members. Their (and Ice-T's) signature mix of deadly seriousness and humor remains intact and the nonpolitical songs are as over the top as ever. An instant classic that will stay the test of time.

Very solid and under appreciated album. A lot of Body count fans will tell you right away that this is definitely not BC's best album, but it is still a very good BC album! Body Count lost 3 members and still managed to pull off a great album! But just remember.... While this is not BC's best moment, it still beats 99.99% of the other crap out there. A very solid effort from Ice T and Ernie C and the guys.
