The front is coated with clear plastic and seems to be impermeable. I haven’t used mine yet, and wasn’t planning to put it on anything that would get wet, so I cut off a corner of the sheet and stuck it on a plastic lid. I soaked it for a half hour in tap water. It didn’t curl up, but it was really easy to pull off. So I would say don’t use it on your scuba tank.
