A Wild Ride
This is difficult to put down here. The book is excellent. The plot is very, very good. I read a great deal and I’m immediately picking up Book 2 in this series. I wasn’t sure in the first 10 pages but then I was hooked! Sam, Lance, Roth, Laurel… the Russians… great characters… really good!

Pretty good!
Well worth reading with great character dialogue and a fast moving plot. Fight and shooting scenes were a bit unrealistic- that was my major complaint. But it is smoothly written and goes by fast. I was not bored and I will probably give book 2 a look. Cheers!

Page turning political espionage thriller
Great read. Filled with intrigue and twists and turns one goes from 0 to 100 mph attracts the first chapter and never lets up. Very well written. Highly recommend.

First ebook I've read in a while with no errors in editing. That I could find at least. The story was good too.

A Pretty Good Story in the Thriller Genre
'The Asset' by Saul Herzog is a rather good story with a lot of action. This is the first book that I have ever read from this author, but I will probably read more.It features Lance Spector as a CIA asset who is working to stop the Russians from deploying a biological super weapon. I had a bit of trouble getting into the story in the first several chapters and had to go back and start over after being away from it for a few days, as the other characters didn't stick with me as well as leading characters normally doThis is the first book in this series. I don't consider it as top tier as say Brad Thor or Jack Carr, but it is still better than a lot of novels out there.

Great Read!
If you like action thrillers and want a fun easy read grab this book! It's got Mission Impossible and Jason Bourne attributes with fantastic end-of-the-world risks tackled by an apathetic bad-ass...well, apathetic until the enemy awakens Lance's internal killer instinct and, well, it gets fast and furious from there! Bravo!

Slam dunk Saul!!!
Watch out Child’s, Patterson & Baldacci, as there’s a new boy in town!! Saul Herzog knows how to keep his readers totally gripped. I’ve just read The Asset and couldn’t put it down. I was delighted to learn that at least eight more books follow on from the original story so I’m one happy lady. I found myself totally invested in the characters and also blindsided by the plot. Keep up the good work Saul

Well worth reading and more
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. You feel that the author knows the former Soviet Union, Moscow, the details of now Russian political investigation techniques and deception. He mixes elementary psychology about women in the forefront.I couldn’t let the book down...and will definitely continue the series. Than you, Author Herzog

A high stakes spy war leads to an unforgettable debut thriller
Meet „retired“ CIA asset Lance Spector - a man with an endearing sense of humor and a very particular set of deadly skills. When we first encounter him, he is in a remarkable situation that immediately forges an emotional connection between him and the reader. With such a great introduction, Saul Herzog sets the bar pretty high from the start and doesn’t let go til the very end.The characters are among the most fully realized that I came across in this genre in quite a while. The story is deftly plotted, and Herzog pulls together the many threads of the complex narrative masterfully at the end.The pacing is also very good and the thrill-factor of the many shocking twists is amplified by the pulse-pounding action scenes, which have an alluring cinematic touch to them.THE ASSET is a truly stunning debut and I can’t wait to see how the story continues in THE RUSSIAN!

unsatisfied
The first impression is not bad. But.Gaps, holes and sloppiness.Characters description seems swinging in the wind without firm center. What happened to Sophia and Olga, both played rather important roles in the book 1, escaped from Russia to the USA with a CIA agent? What happened to Sophia's cat? After reunion with Sophia, was it left in that apartment with two corpses, or dumped on the street in the middle of winter? Winter in Russia? And more. What happened to the second vial of virus which was a deathly threat to whole human being? After being picked up, no mention about it. Not a word from the person who picked it up, or from anyone at all. Did it disappear into the thin air? Or what? Now into the end of book 2, I am losing patience to keep reading.
