Easy to use even for a first-timer
We just bought brand new jet-skis and unfortunately had an incident with the trailer on the way home. A half-dollar size chip in the gel coat was on the bottom of one of the machines before it ever touched the water. I researched gel-coat repair and decided to tackle it myself. I bought this kit and was not disappointed! This is an excellent product! Easy to use and cures very fast. The area I had to repair was black so color match was not too difficult. Just a hint, a very small amount (one drop) of pigment goes a long way so add it slowly. The sheet of plastic that they provide to cover the work area after application of the gel coat provides a smoother finish than wax paper but wax paper can be used too (I also had to fix a couple of smaller nicks near the main chip). While my repair may not be of professional quality, it is hardly noticeable and has held up to jumping the waves.

Good Product for Small Fiberglass Repairs
I have used this product to repair small cuts in the hull of my boat and I most recently used this product to repair a fiberglass shower. Regarding the shower, I repaired screw holes from an old door so that I could install a new, all glass, door. This kit has almost everything you need to make a fiberglass repair except there isn't very much of the resin. That wouldn't be a problem except there isn't much guidance regarding the addition of the colors to the resin. Let me emphasize that you do not need to add much color. The chances are very high that you will add too much color and screw up at least one batch. Then, the chances are good that you won't have much resin left for the second batch. Anyway, if you can get the color mixed properly, the rest of the process is easy. One other thing that is not included with this kit is a clearcoat top finish. I suggest you purchase a spray can of clearcoat top finish. After you have completed your fiberglass repair with this kit and have completed sanding the surface to a smooth finish, spray the clearcoat on it to protect it and to match the un-sanded fiberglass around it.

Not a great deal..
Instructions are a little vague, especially for us that haven’t done any gel coat repairs. By the time you get small measuring cups, and try to properly prep the small areas to be repaired! Next time I will just take to a shop and ensure it’s done correctly. We will see how long my repairs last…

Starter kit
By the time you get comfortable enough to actually start repairing gel coat on whatever, you will be needing the pint can of gel paste and a couple more tubes of the white coloring. That having been said, it is a great starter kit (includes instructions on how to mix colors) and is a good way to get all the other (5) colors, which will last a long time since only small quantities are needed. On non skid I found the only way is to dab the gel coat into the damaged area then use release coating to set it. On slick surfaces I am using heavy waxed paper then using an ink roller to flatted out the surface to the surrounding glass. I then sand with 240 to get the flaws out, then 600, then1200 grit. I then buff with a good rubbing compound, followed by waxing, the results are quite nice.

Terrible product
I don't like the "don't waste your money" reviews, but this is definitely one of them. This stuff is terrible. My fiberglass bass boat is red with gray bottom. The product never dries and comes off with the masking tape. Instructions says it sets in an hour but I left it overnight and it's still soft. The product on the bow came off with the wax paper it was so soft, also after 1, 2 hours and overnight. It mixes to the approximate color and then dries lighter. Makes no difference because it comes right off anyway. The paste and color tubes are difficult to estimate for how much hardener to add. It comes from a tube and the instructions say "add 4 drops per teaspoon of mixed paste". When I went to mix the white and black for the bottom, the black squirted out like ink. Some have said the product had expired on arrival but there is no date code on the package. This was a very, very bad experience.

Good stuff!
This is an easy to use gel coat repair kit. The hardest part is mixing the proper ratio of colors to get the shade you need. However, the chart gives you a pretty good approximation and then some trial and error will get you a good match. The more patience you have, the closer you will get the color. I repaired a 6" gouge on the tan hull of my boat and the repair is almost impossible to see unless you know where to look.
