Q: What is the diameter of the front circle on the peg? Trying to determine if it's small enough to put my key ring on (my key ring diameter is 1 inch)

Front is just under an inch. My biggest key ring is about 1 1/8 inch, and I could not fit it over the front with keys on it.

Q: do clothes/towels stay on the hooks or slide off?

My towels are of varying plushness and stay on without a problem. I also have a thin but sturdy mat that I hang after every shower and it doesn't budge either.

Q: How do you get the covers to stay on the screws?

If you put the little rings on the screws before screwing into the anchor, the caps should snap on. May take a little elbow grease. I recommend being certain it is where you want it before putting the caps on. I couldn't get one of the caps off when I repainted my bathroom and ended up having to paint around the rail!
