Great Introduction to the World of Smart Watches!
This is a great introduction to Smart Watches at a price that is reasonable. I've only had it for one day, but the experience has been generally positive. It's very comfortable to wear - the soft band does not irritate the skin. I have fairly large wrists, and it fits well. It also looks good (mine is red). Without linking to a smartphone, it is not a bad watch. The screen is easy to read and the brightness is adjustable.Non-smartwatch functions include: 3 choices of dials - two analog and one digital. It has a simple alarm with 3 different alarm time settings. It can be set to vibrate only or to ring - there are several ring tones to choose from. The pedometer is nice in that you can let it run all day long to try and achieve the ideal of 10,000 steps. There is a calendar that displays the full month. You cannot, however, enter appointments on it. There is a simple calculator that performs basic arithmetic. It has a sedentary reminder that will tell you if you've been inactive too long - you set the amount of sedentary time you want to elapse before the reminder goes off. It has a sleep monitor that basically tracks how long you have been sleeping - you have to start and stop it. I'm not sure exactly what it measures - probably the amount of motion that occurs - the more movement, the poorer the quality of sleep. There are 4 different sound profiles to choose from for ring tone and volume - they are General, Silent, Meetings and Outdoors. You can customize each profile for volume and tone. There is a power save setting that prolongs battery life by disabling some features such as the Pedometer. I list all of these features because, even without linking to a smart phone, this watch is a great value for the money.Linking to a smart phone via bluetooth adds a bit more functionality, but at the price of complexity and some glitches. First off, you need to download two apps from the Google Play Store. They are Fundo Smartdevice and Fundo Companion. A search using these names will find the apps. Once installed, you turn on bluetooth on the watch and bluetooth on your phone, then pair the two. It took me awhile to get this to work. One of the confusing things about the watch is the combination of making selections on the screen, and the 3 buttons at the bottom of the screen. The lower left hand button acts as an Enter key, and I found to confirm some of the watch's bluetooth settings I had to press the lower left key. Another confusing issue for me was, after I thought pairing had occurred, the watch asked if i wanted to make a serial connection to the phone. Again, pressing the enter key equivalent did the trick.Once paired, there are notifications to be set up through the Fundo apps and your phone. Once completed, you can access your phone's contact list to make calls, view call logs, dial a number by entering the digits, view text messages, play music from your phone (don't expect quality sound from the small speaker), and take pictures with your phone's camera. Unfortunately, I could not get it to take a selfie - still trying to figure this one out. The watch's pedometer updates the Fundo Companion app letting you keep a record of your activity. For this to work, after logging in some steps on the pedometer, you reset it. Then in the Fundo companion app, you press the Synchronous Data button and it will update the step, calorie and distance screen. Notifications of all types can be shown on the watch, depending on what you want to see. The bluetooth range seems fairly limited, so if your phone is too far from the watch, none of the phone features work.Overall, I like this watch a lot. For the price it has a wealth of features, even without linkage to your smart phone. For me, the primary advantage of smart phone linkage is the ease of notification of an event by looking at your wrist instead of always looking at your phone, especially if it's in your pcoket! I highly recommend this watch as a way of getting your feet wet in the emerging smart watch technology. For reference, my phone is an LG V10 running Android version 5.1.1.
