Good blade for the bucks
I have had this knife out of the package now for about 45 minutes and I have to say that I have been picking it up over and over and looking at it closely. There are no visible defects anywhere on the knife or sheath. I do not care much for the Winchester name on the blade but it does not impact the function andis merely cosmetic. For the $20 plus change that I paid for this knife I have to say that I am well pleased with it. So pleased in fact that I have already putin an order for 2 more. Keeping in mind that this is not some custom made super steel alloy $300 knife I believe that the quality is very good.So what if you have to put a stone or a steel to the blade now and then. It is well worth the money, not tax, and maybe free shipping if you buy more than one or other items.I find the finger grooves fit my hand (extra large glove size) just peachy and if your hands get wet, or bloody, you might be glad that the grooves are there. My only possible complaint might be the thin material of the two straps which hold the knife in the sheath. The could be a little more substantial sincethey will get a lot of use but they are probably tougher than they seem to be and will be adequate.I plan to give away these extra knives to my friends when I need a cool "guy gift". Even if they have no practical use for such an knife it isa bad to the bone blade that has real major machismo appeal. I do like knives and have quite a few including the Kabar combat knife that I was issued in Danang, Viet Nam in 1970. I am no stranger to working blades and this one fits the bill. You can use it and abuse it without worrying about damaging your expensive drawer queen custom made knife. I plan to carry mine when I go ground hog hunting or into areas where there are a lot of wild berry bushes which you might need to ease your way through. You can buy this knife and feel like you made a good deal for yourself, you could do a lot worse.Dennis "Doc" Thornton

This is a knife!
When I opened the package from Amazon and took the knife out of the package I immediately thought of that famous Crocodile Dundee scene where he is being held at knife point and his female friend says, "He's got a knife!" Dundee reaches behind him, grabs his monster knife out of the sheath on his back and says, "That's not a knife, THIS is a knife," and of course the would be robbers run off in terror.Well, the Winchester Bowie knife is that kind of knife. Right out of the package it sliced through a sheet of paper with just a touch of the blade. It is sharp, very sharp. It is also very attractive. The shiny stainless steel blade is flawless and while I would have preferred a handle without the finger grips it's OK. I collect knives so it is unlikely I will give this one any hard use but upon looking at it one could immediately suspect it will handle pretty hard duty. And...it's really fun just to look at..it is a big knife. It's the knife I've wanted since I saw Allan Ladd playing Jim bowie in the Movie "Iron Mistress" in the last century. The sheath is better than expected as well. It is a good quality canvas with two snaps. one around the handle and the other over the hilt. Inside is some kind of plastic case so you need not worry about the razor sharp blade cutting through the canvas and performing an appendectomy during a hike.Keep in mind, this is a $20.00 knife. I would have paid twice that price for it but if you are expecting the kind of quality you would get from a $300 knife don't buy it because I for one don't want to see another review from someone who expects BMW's to be sold for the price of a Ford Escort. It's a $20 knife ... a nice one but a $20 knife. If you can live with that you'll be a very happy camper.

Nice!
I was looking for a small sheath knife to replace one I keep in my tool box. I looked at a load of them, just looking for a low cost beater. I guess I clicked the wrong one because this one is huge! I need to slow down and read the description better, the size was right there in front of my eyeballs. My stupidity aside, this is a great knife for short money. I have it displayed on a shelf in the living room. It's too big to be useful to me as I probably will never have to kill a grizzly bear with a knife, but I'll have it if I need it. I could have sent it back but it looks too cool to do that and it was my fault for buying the wrong one. It is put together pretty well and seems as though the blade is hard enough. I didn't want to mark it giving it the full file test but I did hit it with a needle file and it just barely cut it. It may not be as hard as an expensive blade but seems hard enough for most uses. For under 25 dollars this is a good buy. The wood handle looks good and the hilt is polished ok. I can work it over a bit and make it look really nice but it already looks better than you would expect for the price.
