Sevi's Story (Dyslexic Inclusive)

If you have a child or grandchild w/any kind of handicap, they will be inspired by this wonderful adventure story of a little girl and her brother. The kids are REAL. If they are healthy, so many kids grow up to be critical of anyone different than themselves if they are not exposed early to those differences. This children's book can open up a dialogue while the child is young to see not everyone is the same and a physical or mental handicap doesn't mean they can't dreams and aspirations. This courageous little girl has hydrocephalus (water on the brain) and has to overcome physical handicaps and yet keeps a positive outlook. She also has a close bond with her adopted brother (drug baby). Although the story is fantasy, the spirit of celebrating life is uplifting. I wholeheartedly recommend this book!

Not only is Sevi's story a real treat visually, but the content of the story is also incredibly inspiring and relevant. Instead of having people with "disabilities", it's far more accurate to say they have incredible abilities in different ways as both Sevi & Cambo do. Their bond is beautiful and the tenacity they show in living life to its fullest is a real lesson for us all. Couldn't recommend this book enough to anyone and everyone.

This is such a wonderfully written story for a debuting author. The connection these two siblings share, brings nothing but warmth in my heart. It is such a sweet story! I work in the mental health field with patients who are low functioning. This book fits perfectly in my collection of resources I can turn to for patient stimulation. Don't assume it is only useful for challenged individuals, it is great for all children.

As future parents of our little one on the way, my husband and I recommend this book! It is such a heart warming story about adventure, fun, and imagination! The author did such an amazing job by delivering acceptance and overcoming obstacles through “sevi’s story”. It encourages children that it’s okay to be different no matter the circumstances -we are all the same and we can be ourselves no matter what!

Mrs. Chavez weaves a story of physical challenge that enchants young readers/listeners to see normalcy in the face of adversity. My 5 year clearly understood the problems Sevi faces, but she heard nothing but dignity, joy, and perserverence in this book, and identified with the love only siblings can share. It takes talent and grace to present such a story in this way, but the author achieved it with aplomb.

Our kiddos are 6 and 4 and loved that Sevi and Cambo were featured in the front and were "real kids." Lol They loved the imagination of this story! And the illustrations are beautiful!

Looooove this book!! It arrived lightning fast and my 6-year old couldn’t wait to start reading it! A beautiful story and so genuine. All children (and adults) should read this book.
