Audio-Technica AT8022 X/Y Stereo Microphone

This may not be the best microphone in the world. However, this microphone performs. I use a sound designs Mixpre 3ii because it is one of the quietest prosumer level sound recorders out there. The AT 8022 performs extremely well with this sound recorder. Unless you are using a high-end sound recorder, you will never hear the noise of this microphone.From extremely quiet environments to very noisy environments this microphone performs very well.

I use this exclusively for nature sounds and it is amazing! Best to buy an aftermarket fuzzy hood.

I record sound effects out in the field, and I have been using this microphone for nine months. How do I best state my opinion of its performance? I just ordered another one to add to the equipment arsenal.To give some examples of the situations I have used the AT8022 in, I recorded the sounds of frogs at night giving way to morning songbirds in a wetlands area on one day and recorded a Norfolk & Western steam locomotive with its whistle in full cry mere feet away as it climbed Christiansburg Mountain. This microphone handled both jobs equally well, capturing the nuances of a quiet environment (right down to the flutter of bird's wings) and the extreme SPLs of a closeup steam whistle without distortion.I can give no higher praise.

I used this mic and had a couple of projects accepted played on National airways $$$ , awesome mic when you figure out how to use it right .
