This Is My Home, This Is My School

My son, currently age 7, loves this story. We have had the book for two years now and he still requests this on a regular basis as part of his bedtime stories. The illustrations are very whimsical and fun. We also have the book, Building Our House, which details the beginnings of this family's home that later becomes their school. This is a perfect read at the beginning of the school year or anytime throughout the year.

What a wonderful book depicting the everyday life of a homeschool family. It is both a tribute to the author’s homeschool experience while still being a relatable, enjoyable book to any homeschool family. My preschool-age daughter knows we are & will homeschool her, and she is already starting to grasp the concept and loves being able to identify with the family depicted in the story. The pictures are vibrant & colorful, and story simple yet packed with enjoyment, and also humor. I’m so glad I found this one, and have already started sharing it with other homeschool mom friends of mine!

This is an absolutely lovely and well depicted story about homeschooling! I am so very pleased to own this and cannot wait to share it with my children. I am confident they will love seeing their lives reflected so accurately and so well in this story...right down to the never ending messy house. The author is a homeschool graduate who beautifully recalls the joy of homeschooling while making sure to include some of the hardships (a tired (and sometimes grumpy) Mama for instance!). The story explains how homeschooling is not so much about staying in our homes, but using the world as our classroom (and every room in our homes!). Instead of justifying homeschooling by portraying the negatives of public/private school, he effortlessly shows so many of the reasons so many of us homeschool. The illustrations are a little busy for my preference, but I think my kids will enjoy discovering "hidden" items in each page. I think this is an excellent addition to any homeschool family's library, as well as a potential great gift for grandparents and doubting relatives or friends. Thank you to this author...it is perfect!!

I also bought this book as a back to homeschool theme for my smaller children. However, all of my hs kids loved it ( ages 14 - 3). They had many things in common with his homeschooling family. They also like to look through the busy illustrations and discuss whats going on with each character in the book. I found it useful and encouraging for my middle and high school children, that he talks about how he went on to college and still learns from his father to this day. I even appreciated that he added how much work his mother put into homeschooling them each day. This story being a true story, just makes it soooooo much better and more encouraging for my children.

I have enjoyed reading this book with my soon to be homeschooled children. My 4 yo likes to find all the different things in the pictures and compare to our house and how we do things during the day.

Beautiful illustrations! My son loved this book on his first day of kindergarten; So much that he requested it for bedtime reading that night and again the next day. This is probably our favorite book for starting our homeschool journey. This book is so very relatable. And I feel like it helped my son make connections for all of the “school” things his preschool teachers taught him to expect.

I bought this book to create a new first day of school tradition. This is our first full year of homeschool so I’m still learning the ropes. This is such a cute book. My son giggled the whole time. The illustrations are so cute and have really pretty colors. I’m so glad this was the book I purchased to be apart of hopefully a special memory for years to come with my kids.

Oh my goodness! What an amazingly CUTE book! Awesome illustrations! Wonderful theme! If you homeschool, this book is a must. My kids love it and love seeing a book that reflects what their life is like. Love love love!

This book was really inspirational for my 4.5 year old. It's regularly chosen by him to read. The pictures are great and the book covers all areas of home education. Love the real home education photographs at the end of the book too

Cute, fun, encouraging, nice art

My daughters are home educated and love this book. It explains the difference between home and school but also shows that you can learn at home it's just looking at it another way from a traditional classroom. Super book and has become a favourite to our collection.
