Eats the iPad Pro for lunch, at half the price
Five stars at the current price of under $400. Absolutely kills even the new 2017 iPad Pro for function and versatility, at about half the price. I wanted a 10" tablet that I could do real creative work on and type. The stylus from the SP4 is $50, and the KB that used to cost $140 is now $75. So for under total $500 this thing is stunning. I have Krita and ArtRage drawing programs - much deeper and more capable than anything on iOS. Blender works quite well with a stylus - yeah, I am editing 3D models on a 10" tablet with an Atom processor. I added a $10 Bluetooth mouse and a 128GB mSD card. For a "case" I got some black Sugru rubber and molded/sculpted protective corners on thi, for some protection against drops cracking the screen, while not adding much bulk or weight at all. I also got some very thin magnetic stainless steel and cut a couple little strips to glue to the top edge so the SP4 stylus will attach magnetically, like it does to the SP's. These two little mods really complete the package. Now look: I am not editing high resolution photos and paintings with tons of layers on this. I am designing fairly simple sculptures in 3D modeling. I am not trying to edit videos. Reign in your expectations, it's a tablet with no fan and 4GB of RAM. I have a burly desktop with tons of RAM and a gamer video card for video editing, 3D final rendering, gaming, editing huge photoshop files. That's not what this is for. It's for sketching, concepts, email, browsing, reading books, movies on a plane, doodling on the couch and in bed and when I travel. The Atom has surprised me, with only 4GB of RAM I can multitask just fine. The touch functionality of Win 10 is actually pretty good. Tablet mode works well, switch to Desktop when using a mouse and multitasking more heavily. Browsers can do most of what my Android tablet apps were doing, at least as well if not better. You can't get much in the Windows Store but you can now get Spotify and Instagram. The Kindle PC app is good enough. The Nightlight function to change the color temp of the screen to less blue is a godsend and much better than my Samsung Android tablet. Let's just say my Galaxy Note 10.1 has stayed powered down since I got this thing, which has surprised me a bit. It really is a good casual tablet. The screen is great. The build quality is top notch. The speakers face forward and are loud and rich, much better than most tablets and phones. The stand adjusts to 3 positions, very sturdy, they suit me fine. Any Surface kickstand is WAY better than having just a flip case like the new Galaxy Book, the other 10" convertible I've had my eye on. The battery life is about 8 hrs. charging is kind of slow but you can actually use a phone mSD charger as long as it puts out 2 amps - this is incredibly convenient when traveling, just take ONE charger for your phone/tablet. Love it.About the only negative I have is that is doesn't always turn on instantly. No matter how I set it, it seems to go into a deep sleep if you leave it for a while, and will take 15 secs or so to wake up. It's a bit of a tradeoff coming from an Android tablet. However, Android tablets have a shelf life. Samsung is not going to update that Android tablet OS now that it's 3 years old. MS will keep updating these Surfaces probably for much much longer to the latest Windows 10. A much better deal in the long run.I just can't figure out why they have let this model go discontinued with no update. So much more portable and cheaper than the Surface Pros, yet much of the functionality. Much smaller and lighter than a laptop, yet way more capable than an Android tablet or iPad.I have not used the LTE but nice to have. It is the GSM N. Am. unlocked version, not the AT&T only version. Pick one up while there are still some new ones left. Reading reviews - the only drawbacks to this when it first came out was how expensive it was. A lot of people liked it better than the SP3 or SP4, but balked at the price. At less that $500 fully equipped, and seeing that a decent spec SP4 or 2017 SP is well over $1000, suddenly it seems brilliant.

An Excellent Tablet/Computer - Well worth the money in 2017
This is an excellent tablet/computer and well worth the purchase even if it did come out in 2015. I have tried other tablets, including the iPad air and this one stands out head and shoulders above them all. It's a real computer and a very good tablet. It has all the ports you need and all the power for tasks which would be normal for tablet or light weight computer usage. It can do light gaming, light Photoshop, light video editing. When I say light, I mean the type of editing most people would do. Anything that needs a lot of computational work will slow it down - video rendering for example. You can create your video fairly easily but you'll have to wait for awhile before the completed project is finished. Most reviewers complained about the price when it first came out and otherwise graded it very highly. Now with the price lowered as it is - this is the tablet to buy - with a keyboard of course. I also purchased the pen and found it handier than I imagined. All in all, I'm very happy with this purchase. This is well worth the money.

Bad Refurbish
It's labeled as a refurbish but the only thing that seems to have taken place was an OS re-install, I do not expect a perfect scratch free device, but I do expect one that works. I am very disappointed in the device. When it arrived (in a very timely manner) it was dead, while this is normal, and not a big deal I placed it on the charger checking it periodically to see if it was charging correctly, and it wasn't. After a couple hours I would get the surface logo to pop up and then be met by the dead battery symbol once again (while it was still on the charger). Again not entirely abnormal for a device that could have been completely dead, not a good sign. So I thought I would charge it while I slept for around 8-10 hours and check it in the morning. It would turn on my first thought was "Whoot we're all good" but I was wrong. It then proceed to boot-loop until bringing up the recovery menu where I would have to factory reset it and hope that fixed the issue, eventually after restarting a few times in the process it finally booted into the OS where I could log in and.... nope tablet crashed. at this point I was frustrated because I needed something cheap but functional for school and this has proved to not be what I needed. After 3 or 4 reboots I finally got into the OS and the battery said 36% and "discharging" meaning that it was not going to be exceeding the 36%, which could have been something as simple as the battery needed re-calibrated. But then the final straw was it crashing once again giving me the final signal that this battery was shot and couldn't maintain the voltage required to power this tablet and it was never "refurbished" to any standard at any factory, it was simply a re-sell that I wasted my time on.TLDR: The tablet has not been refurbished and has not been tested, most important the battery in my specific unit was unusable, your results may vary but I wouldn't risk it with this product. 1/10 would not recommend.
