A Good toaster is hard to find
You may not be interested in researching toasters. Growing up we had great toasters. They did a reasonable job of toasting bread, and lasted for decades. When I started out on my own, I had the perfect toaster. Made by a German company, it used quartz infrared lamps instead of Nichrome wire coils. It may have lasted for decades, but my children accidentally damaged it beyond repair (doing something incorrectly, they did not understand). I tried to buy one like it, but it was no longer available. I bought a mid-priced toaster at a department store, and was disappointed. Not great, and did not last. Then I bought a $12 toaster on Amazon, that was better than the mid-priced toaster. I still use it at a remote cabin, but it is too small for artisan bread. I did my research. There were under $100 toasters that despite looking different, were in reality, similar Asian imports. There were a few premium toasters, well over $100, that got mixed reviews. A few models of toasters being sold, caught on fire. Some commercial models seemed better, but tended to be too large. I used a toaster oven for a while, which worked well if you gave it your undivided attention. I almost bought a commercial conveyor type toaster. I don't remember how I found this Dash toaster, but when I found out it used quartz infrared lamps (like my old favorite) I was interested. I researched Dash, and found out the company was started by ambitious Americans. I decided to buy it. I have been happy enough with it, to buy another one for our second house. Works on homemade artisan bread, and it works on commercial soft bread. Bagel mode is perfect. It just takes a little experience to learn where to set the dial for different products. The outside glass is removable for cleaning. The inside glass and metal reflectors cannot be cleaned (as near as I can tell). That has not been a problem for us, but if you put chocolate chip cookies, slices of pizza, or similar messy foods in it, you will have a problem before too long. Setting a reasonable budget for my everyday use toaster, this is the best I have found, and I looked for a long time. Single long slot, with a nice viewing window. Accommodates oversize single slices, or two standard loaf slices. The case has not been hot enough to burn me. The metal on top, surrounding the bread slot, gets hot enough to burn your fingers. Usual crumb tray on the bottom, is removable to empty. It does not look bad, but it won't pass for an ostentatious prestige appliance, if that is important to you.

A good toaster at a fair price
I have never had a toaster that toasted the same on both sides of a slice of bread. All were poor at that. I ordered this Dash toaster because reviews said that it did do both sides the same and fairly evenly too. I can report that this is true. I like the window view so you can watch your toast browning. The bagel button is a nice feature, letting you toast only the cut side of a bagel. That makes a great bagel. Also like the retro look.

Good Toaster & Nice Looking
Good toaster! We’ve had this for a couple months now. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is the glass comes loose everyday without moving the toaster and then the toaster does not operate. However, the manual is very clear that this can happen and to just push the glass back up. I purchased this toaster because we wanted a toaster with a long slot size for artisan bread. Hasn’t burned toast, accurate toasting, quiet. Once in a while it’s a little overzealous when it pops up. Very nice looking as well. We purchased the DASH clear toaster because we had to replace one we purchased from PlumChef, which only lasted 4-5 weeks… it was horrible.

Unique and outstanding
My parents bought one of these and on my annual visit with them, I noticed they had this toaster. I absolutely fell in love with it. Not only is it cool to be able to see the level of toasting happening in real time, it’s very functional as well. I sometimes have large pieces of bread that wouldn’t fit in a typical toaster but this one can hold a large slice for when i make sandwiches. It has a very sleek look to it rather than the typical square looking toaster. The browning is perfect and consistent. I’m almost tempted to buy a backup one in case they ever stopped selling these. I’m in my mid 50s and I’ve had a lot of toasters of my time but this one is truly the best.

Love this toaster!
I make homemade bread and my slices are often wider and thicker than normal. This toaster is not only beautiful in the kitchen, it really does the job. Sometimes my pieces are straight from the freezer and the defrost option really helps (although I find I have to toast it a second time). It's much better than my toaster oven at producing evenly toasted pieces. I love the little window! Since my pieces vary in thickness so I can't use one darkness setting like I would from store bought bread slices, it's really great to be able to see them browning and hit the cancel button if needed. This also works faster than my toaster oven and for a lot less electricity. 2 things to be aware of.. if you put one thin piece of bread in there it sometimes is a bit enthusiastic at ejecting it. The crumb tray is shallow and hard to remove without spilling a bit but that's easy to wipe up. I'd recommend this toaster for anyone that usually only needs a few pieces of toast at a time.

Gimmick doesn't pay off in reality
We bought this toaster about 9 months ago. We read the reviews and thought it sounded interesting/good enough. We were disappointed the moment we got it. The "window" gimmick is a cool idea and it does look impressive. But that is where that ends... In operation the heating elements glows a nice soothing orange color which really makes it impossible to see if the bread is toasted or not. So if you're thinking you get to watch to get just the right level of done... forget it, it all looks orange. This is not truly a 2 slice toaster in reality. If you only use the bread that is square-ish and small then you can indeed get 2 slices in. If you use any of the nicer breads that are a little wider, forget it, this becomes a one slice toaster. A toaster is a simple device and you expect it to be simple. Find a setting you like, never change that again, and each time you expect the same results. This thing is wildly inconsistent. On the same setting you can get not toasted, or way too toasted. And even when it does toast, it doesn't do so consistently across the bread. You see this is where the window should pay off, if you can't count on the timing/toasting to be consistent, then you should be able to watch through the window, but as stated that doesn't help. Also, it's the window that causes the inconsistency across the bread. Other toasters have heating elements that go all the way down the side of the bread evenly. This toaster only has a top and bottom heating element so it doesn't obstruct the view... but it also means the bread isn't heated evenly. Lastly, I don't know who though it was necessary to put the springs under such tension. The toast only needs to lift up at the end... it does not need to be launched out. We had to hold a plate above the toaster or else when the toasting cycle ended it would be launched out of the toaster onto the counter/floor. This of course resulted in wasted bread and of course throwing off the timing for the rest of the meal as we waited for yet another batch to be made. If you are the type of person who wants to try and watch your toast during the entire cycle and want to catch it from flying all over the house at the end... then this toaster is for you. If you want a product that just does its job well... keep looking. I have since upgraded to a Cuisinart Leverless toaster (CPT-440) It is wonderfully consistent and it's so satisfying to watch the toast gently raise/lower via the motorized mechanism. It even has a nice LCD display to show you how long the toast will take. And, most importantly, it toasts consistently/evenly at the desired setting every time.

Best toaster ever!
Ohh, I absolutely love this retro looking toaster. We had a four slice toaster, but it had it's last day and so we were on the search for something more modern, which sounds weird because its retro- but anyways- this is an awesome toaster. You can watch your toast/bagel or what not toast through the clear view window. My daughters love this as well too. Very easy to use- and the bread or bagel comes out perfect. I love being able to see my bread toast in clear view. It is not overly large, what a typical large two toaster would be. The color options were also impressive. However, the best part of this toaster is that it works perfectly and my bread/toast turns out every single time. I'd definitely recommend this brand and will look to them for other products based on my positive experience with this toaster. 5/5

Looks good and seems well built, but falls short in use.
Just OK. The build quality seems good. And the window is a neat feature. But unless you use it in a brightly lit area, you can't really see the darkness of the toast while using it. Also, the bread doesn't go down far enough into the toaster; all of my bread sticks out the top of the toaster leaving the top warm but not toasted. And it toasts unevenly; the bottom edge and top third of the toasting area gets toasted, but the middle is very pale. and it leaves strong vertical pale bars on the toast. The resulting toast is warm and slightly crisp, but doesn't look good. Lastly, the "true bagel function" leaves standard grocery store soft bagels from the fridge cold and chewy on one side. This just isn't for me. I'll be returning it.
