Jumbl Hi-Res Scanner is a Great Value !!!
I had great success going through over 4000 old slides and negatives and scanning the ones I wanted to keep. I am not a purist and was NOT looking for "professional quality" grade scans - I just wanted to get my negatives/slides scanned so that I can create albums at photo-sharing sites. Virtually all of negatives were clean anyway - just a few had obvious dust and fingerprints. This scanner met my needs perfectly and produces good quality (my opinion) JPEGs. Here are some things i learned that might be of benefit to you:- To handle the negatives/slides without leaving finger prints buy a box of vinyl (no powder) “Exam Gloves” in the Prescription Dept at Target, Walmart, CVS, etc. A box of 50 costs like $5-$6. Do not reuse the same pair for subsequent sessions as you will typically invert the gloves when to take them off your hands – meaning your sweat and hand oils are now on the outside of the gloves. It’s a real pain to turn these gloves inside out again – just use a fresh pair for any subsequent sessions as the gloves are cheap.- Use the soft eyeglass lens cleaning rag and Q-Tip to remove fingerprints on the slides or negatives. Once the slides/negatives are mounted in the holder, put the soft rag on the slide/negative then use the Q-Tip to gently wipe the rag on the slide/negative.- If there are dust specs on the slides/negatives, blow a breath or use a gloved finger to brush them off. Or, better yet, go to Office Max and buy a small can of “Compressed Air for Computer Keyboard Cleaning”. Once the slides/negatives are mounted in the holder, use the compressed air to blow away dust particles.- Using the 14MP resolution setting on the scanner, the internal memory will hold 54 items before you must export the images to your computer or other external storage. If you use the 22MP resolution setting, I think the scanner’s memory will only hold about 37 images. I did not buy an SD card – I just used my computer and its external hard drive to store the images.- The directions say that you should load the slides and negatives with the “matt (dull) side…facing you.” I found just the opposite. Choose a slide or negative that has writing in the picture area or look for cues in the picture (like which hand has a wedding ring on, etc) to determine the proper orientation.- If you mount a bunch of different slides or individually cut negatives in the holder, invariably you will mount one with the reverse side up because with older slides/negatives it can be difficult to tell which is the matt side or the shiny side. You can “flip” the image in the scanner by pressing the left Arrow button. But NOTE: once you do this, all subsequent images that you scan will be reversed until you press that left Arrow button again (or remove power to the unit) to reset the image default.- I found that if I got to pressing the different buttons on the unit too quickly that it is possible to “freeze” or lock up the unit where it won’t accept any commands from the buttons – not even the button to turn off the scanner. Simply unplug the scanner from its power source for a few seconds, then reconnect power and turn the scanner on. No harm done. All your previously scanned images are still in the scanner’s memory (or SD card if you used one).- There is no image counter on the scanner so you won’t know how many images the unit has stored until the little “Full” icon pops up. Then you must download the images to your computer. If you used the scanner’s USB accessory to supply power to the unit from your computer, images will be transferred through this same connection.- The scanner provides some capability for adjusting color balance. I only bothered to use it on slides/negatives which had been severely affected by age. It takes a bit of patience to keep making adjustments.LASTLY: I was NOT provided with a free scanner to test and write a review. This review is purely from my personal purchase and review.

Good for Small Batches and Snapshots
This scanner is very easy to set up and use.I scanned about 400 35mm slides in three two-hour sessions for three separate batches. I get bored easy, and it is a bit tedious. And I had over 1,200 slides that were set up for slide changer. You must remove the slides from the clips to use. These were my dad's slides, and he took a bunch of landscape and animal pictures. I only wanted relatives and friends’ pictures. Essentially in preparation, I weeded out all the undesirable slides before starting to scan. The file sizes were about 2 MB.The viewer is not very large, nor of the highest quality. It would have been nice to view the pictures on a computer screen before scanning. However, there is no way to accomplish that task. You must scan the slide to the memory card, then download the files to the PC, before you can view the scanned pictures. The instructions indicate you can use the scanner as a mass storage device using the USB connection to the PC to view and edit the pictures. This means you are editing the picture on the SD memory card. There is no way to view the slide image directly to the pc before scanning.I did not have any problems with sliding the slides through the slide adapter. The adapter features placing one slide in the adapter, then putting the next one in which positions the first slide exactly ready for scanning, and finally putting the next slide in, which pushes the first slide out the adapter. To scan the slide into the memory card, you must press the Menu/Scan button, then the OK button. It would be nice to press only one button for scanning, but after a few slides, you get used to the procedure.Note these slides dated back between the 50's and mid 70's, which were stored OK, but not a good as they could have been. However, the job at hand was to scan snapshots of very old degraded slides to pass down to family and friends. This scanner did the trick and, in my opinion, was easy to use and was quite satisfied.

Operación
Poco amigable. No es fácil de operar. El menú de comandos no es claro. Y cuesta un poco de trabajo introducir los tramos de película.

Excellent digitizer! High resolution photos make great on 55" TV and for prints!
I am highly pleased with this digitizer! Unfortunately, it does get easily dirty, but what can you expect with old slides? The cleaning stick doesn't do a very good job at cleaning, so you have to be rough with it and it takes awhile to get the teeny tiny hairs off of the photo plate. However, once cleaned, the images are superb! There is no problem doing 8X10 prints with this resolution. The pictures also look great on my 55" TV. The device was completely easy to use! I didn't need the manual. I did check the manual after use, but didn't learn anything new as it's pretty common sense on how to use. You don't have to be highly technical in order to use this device. Photos take approximately 3 seconds to digitize, this giving 2 seconds to allow the white balance to adjust per photo. It literally takes 1 second to save. Count "one Mississippi" and it's saved. I bought a 32GB SD card for this, it took no time to transfer photos and considering the photos are just under 2mb each, 32GB was a bit of an over-kill. The first photo job I did was with 482 slides. They all came out nice! Took 2.5 hours, but I'm pleased!
