Easy mistake to think rover is broken
Overall, kids think this rover is cool and it does teach them about solar energy in a fun manner. That said, the kids (grade 5) put this together themselves and were outside on a super sunny day and the rover did NOTHING! When we came out to inspect it, it turned out that the black and red wiring was not making any contact to the electrodes underneath the solar panel itself. We popped the panel out of the housing and saw that the + and - were flipped to the top of the rover when they should have been at the bottom. We popped it back in the right way, inserted the wires so they touched the electrodes of the solar panel and the rovers motor started spinning immediately. For those of you who also have the same problem, double check that the wiring is making contact with the correct part of the solar panel. :) Enjoy!

Good one for learning solar powered toy
Wow this works perfectly. It was my first solar power toy. Very easy to fix

Fun, but 7 year old will need help and you need a LOT of sun
I gave this four stars because for us it worked. However, it does require incredibly small screws so my 7 year old just didn't have the dexterity to get them in on his own; I had to help. But he did love connecting the wires and helping to build it. It took us about 30 minutes to build and we loved it (that's from opening the box to heading outside to use it).It does, however, require a LOT of light. We live in Florida - in full sun, outside, it worked. But it stopped walking as soon as a cloud floated by. So it really does need a TON of light. We tried a flashlight, lamp the window - nope, had to be outside in full sun. And, it fell over a lot, but that didn't bother me because my son was then interested in how he could add legos or penny's to balance it out so it didn't fall, so that was learning. Overall, I'd buy it again - he enjoyed it. Just know the issues.

small pieces
The media could not be loaded. We loved this. It was a quick activity my 8 year old loved. He just needed help with the tiny screws

Great simple inexpensive fun kit!
This is a great simple kit. Any kid that likes to assemble stuff or learn how things work will have some fun with this. My son is looking to add a simple switch in the circuit to be able to disconnect the solar panel from the motor. He kept trying to get his dad to drink a beer so he'd have a can, but it works just fine without the can! The can serves no functional purpose... just aesthetics.

Not a great Value for money!!
Easy to assemble, fun For kids but very flimsy parts. A card stock sheet caused a small part to break and get stuck in the base so now the whole rover is unusable. It was a birthday gift and broke the same day it was opened.

Great Educational Toy. Younger children will require some help assembling.
Bought as a gift for a 7 year-old niece, who loved it ( along with her 4 year old brother ). Was skeptical that the small PV panel would actually supply enough power to drive the kart along, but it did just fine. The kids loved seeing how they could stop and start the kart by putting it sun vs. shade. Instructions are adequate but could be confusing if one is not technically inclined. I would imagine that most kids would need some help assembling the components correctly but they can definitely still follow along and benefit from learning how gears, motors, electricity, and solar energy work.

Great Gift for my Nephew!
My nephew is super smart and interested in all things science, so I thought this would make the perfect Christmas gift. All you need is 2 recycled bottles and an old magazine to send this thing flying up into the air. It's a great way to teach kids to reuse and repurpose rather than filling our landfills. Our rocket didn't reach 80 feet, but it really did shoot high. My nephew thought it was the coolest thing ever. He didn't even realize he was learning something when he was playing with it. It's different, fun, and educational, and his parents were really happy that I didn't buy him one more thing for them to step on in the middle of the night on the way to the bathroom.
