Unbelievable
Not much to a distributor but to set the spark at the right time, that said, do not expect to MAKE horsepower from a perfectly good distributor. I was in the market for a distributor since the mechanical weights under the ignition rotor had eaten through the bushing and were just flopping around, this caused an erratic timing curve. On top of that, the pick-up coil was at the brink of going out. So if you are in the market of buying a new distributor but cannot decide wether to buy a quality rebuilt one or an MSD "performance" distributor, depends on the needs of the engine. If the old distributor has been highly neglected and needs a new cap, rotor, control module, and/or coil, this MSD distributor is a really good buy. The actual build quality of the distributor itself is well above OEM and seems lighter as well. Install is easy as long as you mark what cylinder should be firing and don't crank the car at all, if not, it'll take some time to get the timing right again. As good as performance goes, engine is firing smooth throughout the RPM curve and noticed an improvement on HP, MPG, and throttle response. I am very pleased with this product and would recommend to anyone with a worn out distributor. PROS Great Value Lightweight Adjustable vacuum advance Assembly lube included Distributor Gasket included CONS Mechanical recurving kit sold separately Plastic seems cheap, but can always get a new one the next tune-up Stock four pin control module

Seems to be a marker improvement over my electronic distributor it replaced.
Only con is it continues running for a few seconds after you turn off the power. I knew my last distributor had failed after just a couple of years when my engine misfired and my tach stopped working. Only complaint is the tube of gear lube that came with it was empty. Used white lithium grease as a replacement. Had to get HEI terminal ends to match up with the HEI cap.

Arrived broken in the box
After numerous reports of broken caps you'd expect better. Junk And in fact upon visual inspection it doesn't look any different from the $50 distributor Just has a sticker on it The internals look the same this country is robbing everyone.

So far so good.
with modern HEI distributors it’s hard to find one that isn’t some rando “amazon brand” tier product. Despite the negative reviews I decided to go with this distributor due to the brand. the huge issue with most if not all distributors on the market now a days is the hardware used inside them. one thing i’ve always done with non GM Distributors is put an AC Delco ICM (Ignition Control Module) Part No. D1906 inside them. 99% of the distributors use cheap chinese knock off ICM’s and MSD is not an exception. so if you buy any distributor that is not GM, that should be the first thing you do before you install it into your vehicle. another step I do with all distributors, ESPECIALLY if an aluminum intake is used, is to take the black wire (one red, brown and black) running from the condenser to the coil and splice it with a long 16/14g wire to use as a secondary ground connection. Aluminum is not the best conductor so having another ground source directly to the coil is always the best practice. I personally use a ring connector on the end of the wire and fasten a screw through it directly to the frame or body. doing these two steps I believe will fix 90% of the bad reviews seen here.
