Great blender

This is the best, most reliable, home blender. In twenty years. This is my second and it never fails to impress. Soups, smoothies, icy drinks perfectly in a snap.

The smoothie blender seems great, but it can malfunction if the thin rubber gasket around its base shifts out of place, which happens incidentally a little too easily. If that happens it leaks pre-blended liquid ingredients all over because it has to be turned upside down to operate. Once again an entire appliance's use rests on the functionality of one cheap piece of rubber or plastic. Why do designers do this? Also the main blender has let a small amount of water in under the base while in the dishwasher, which can't be removed easily and is gross over time. You aren't supposed to mess with the base at all. So how to clean it?

I've wanted a Vitamix for years, and finally, I got a job that allowed me to splurge. Unfortunately, it has turned out to be a real disappointment. I spent over $450 on both the blender and the 'to-go' cup package less than three months ago, but I've already had to submit two RMAs; one for the blender (started leaking, squeaked loudly [and still does, even after service]) and one for the cups (one has warped after only five trips in the dishwasher, top rack). Customer service is top-notch, and it really is a powerful blender, but none of that matters if I can't use my appliance. I had my Ninja for over eight years, and nothing went wrong. I got rid of it because I thought my Vitamix would render it useless, but that hasn't been the case. I wish I could return it and just get a new Ninja or InstantPot blender. My partner warned me that the cult of the Vitamix might just be a bunch of yuppies justifying their very expensive purchases, but I didn't believe her. I wish I had.
