Have been using this filter housing for over 5 years and am glad I bought this model. The filters are large and therefore do not get clogged very fast. I clean them once every 18 to 24 months and they are still far from being clogged and have no pressure drop. The first filter is 30 micron, second is 10 micron. I will change the second filter to 5 micron. This is on a well and apparently the well water is very good so ymmv.The only negative are the brackets. I reinforced them with another bracket and strongly recommend doing that. When filled with water these housings weigh a lot more than you would think and move too easily, possibly loosening the pipe connection when servicing the filter or bumping into the housing.Their is enough room to attach the bottom bracket hole to the filter bracket with a nut and bolt without screwing into the actual filter housing. Wood lag screws are good for attaching bracket to the wood wall plate.Brackets: Everbilt 4 in. Zinc-Plated Heavy Duty Corner Brace

I put a 100 micron spin down and two of these in line ahead of my softener. A pleated 50 micron followed by a wound string 5 micron. They clean a huge amount of sediment and iron out of my well water. As well, I put a few ounces of resin cleaner in the softener brine for every regeneration. The resulting water is soft, crystal clear and tastes great! You can drill and tap the bottom of these for a ball valve. Then, you can drain the sump before changing the filter. These 20” sumps are HEAVY when full of water. Another trick is to bolt a shelf to the wall just below these, (leave enough clearance to unscrew!) so when you unscrew it, and can’t control the weight, it will only fall a few inches instead of to the floor. The media could not be loaded. Purchased this 20” Big blue Pentair filter as we live in an area that constantly has issues with dirty or brown/yellowing water. The filter is missing the media or filter cartridge. Also it’s missing the mounting kit and screws. I don’t know which screws I used but length were 1 inch and were flat tip. I wished they sold with all parts even if price was higher as I wasted time ordering them and some will have a hard time finding the correct screws for the installation. Why can’t they just sell you a complete set? Had to use liquid pipe thread sealant as tape just leaked even after removing and retapping multiple times. I hope this review helps others only time will tell if this product will help with dirty water. Not sure how long it will last but will add a pressure gauge to it soon as didn’t find any locally.

This is a very sturdy, very large 20" sump for a household water filtering system. It arrived on time and in excellent condition. I got exactly what I ordered (some folks had issues with receiving a 3/4" in/out when ordering this 1" version). It took me a couple of assembly attempts getting a good seal on each of the two canisters I ordered since the large o-ring slipped out of the groove, but a 2nd attempt got everything sealed good and tight. Be sure to use the silicon lubricant that's provided. Not only does it provide a better seal and easier removal later, it's also fairly gooey thus helping to hold the o-ring in place while screwing the canister to the cap. These things seem to be heavy duty and I expect them to last for years. Be sure to order the optional metal mounting brackets since these guys are fairly heavy, especially after filling with water. I would not be comfortable letting my piping support the weight as some have mentioned. I configured a two stage filtering system--the first filtering out 5 micron particles and the second taking it down to 1 micron. I don't need carbon or iron filters since I have good quality well water other than the sediment particles. I recommend this item and would buy it again.

I have been using this product for 9 years now and have fought with it every time I have to change the filter. We are on a well and this does a good job keeping the sand and silt out of our water. I have to change the filter every three months, and I dread it each and every time. The issue comes when putting in the new filter and tightening it. Hand tightening it doesn't work because as soon as the water is turned on, it starts leaking from the top. Now I have to turn off the water, unscrew the housing and try to keep it from dropping on the floor because the filter is now saturated with water and the housing is full of water too. Pull the filter, drain the housing, clean the o-ring again and try once more. Put it all back together and screw in the housing, but now it's much heavier because of the water-saturated filter. After a couple of tries, the threads finally engage, and it screws together. Give it a couple of tugs with the flimsy wrench, turn the water on...it leaks again. Do it all over again, and again. Finally, it seals and sits there for three months before I have to do it all over again. In 9 years, I have only had it not leak water on the first try only one time. Must have been my lucky day. This one is going in the trash as soon as I can find a system with NPT threads and doesn't require a screw-on filter housing. Wish me luck,

No issues with the filter housing itself, but when ordering it please keep in mind that it comes as an incomplete set. There is NO filter wrench included in the kit. You will need to order one separately that fits the 20" housing. It would be 5 stars if everything was included.

When our house water filter had a slow leak, I called our plumber. He said this suppliers were charging at least $180 for the wholesale price! He sent me the link on Amazon to this Pentair Pentek housing, which was only the third of the wholesaler's price! Since the plumber installed this new filter housing, everything is working well. No leaks!
