Six Improvements Needed
I lucked out and got an item without dents, scratches, broken parts, or other flaws. My drawer does not slide out; in fact, I held the tray drawer-side down and it stayed closed. (There seems to be a magnetic catch employed to do this.) It’s possible that the company has finally taken note of the complaints posted here and got its act together. That said, I have several constructive suggestions:1. I second reviewer Amy Kosinski’s suggestion to add a lip below (and on the right?) of the mousepad, to keep the mouse from sliding off.2. The lip below the adjustable part of the table isn’t high enough to secure some items, such as a regular size keyboard or a thick book. It should either be twice as tall, or the buyer should be given an optional accessory to double its present height. (E.g., a “topper lip” with a peel-off adhesive on the bottom.) Adding a book-reading capability to the tray would expand its market.3. At 5.5 pounds, it’s too heavy. A pound or two ought to be cut by using a lighter material.4. I use this in a hospital-type bed, with my torso slightly elevated. I place my Kindle Fire tablet on the slanted surface. For best readability, I need that surface to be more elevated than the current prop-and-three-slot arrangement allows. I have achieved this by glueing three 1-inch squares of peel-off, 1/8-inch thick bumpers (meant to stabilize pictures against a wall, I suspect) behind the third slot, creating a couple of valleys between them that hold the prop in place—although not as securely as it would be held if the maker provided a couple of extra slots.5. I don’t lift the tray off me when I get up, but pivot it aside to the left, which is much easier. I’m able to do this because I keep the right-side’s legs folded up, with the right side of the tray resting on my legs. The only downside of this arrangement is that the left side of the tray is about 1 inch higher than the right, which puts my tablet on a slant. I’ve compensated for this by unfolding the flap of the tablet’s cover to the left, sliding the tablet an inch to the left, so it is balanced on the left edge of the lip as its pivot point, and tilting it so it’s level. This is not optimum. I suggest that when a locking mechanism is provided for the legs, TWO “stops” be provided, the second of which would allow the legs to splay out more than at present, so the tray would be more level when the other side would otherwise be lower when resting on a person’s legs. (It’s not necessary for the tray to be exactly level for it to eliminate excessive slanting.) The ability to advertise the tray as having a “pivot-aside” feature would be a good selling point, countering the advantage that competitors with adjustable legs now enjoy.6. An instructional leaflet wouldn't be a bad thing.I use the well at the top of the adjustable left side of the tray to hold the stylus for my tablet. It could also be stored in the drawer. The drawer can also hold a highlighter and a bookmark for use when reading, or a pen for use when writing, or the "zapper" for my Bose radio.PS: My tray is black. Amazon wouldn’t allow me to change the color for the purpose of a review—its only option is one color, walnut.

Good desk, worth the effort of additional modifications (if needed), still worth more than what you pay
I have only owned this desk for about a week now but it has already come in handy a lot. I like to study in bed sometimes and having no hard surface makes that difficult. I have had good luck with this lap desk so far and will detail the pros and cons below.Pros:1. Sturdy, seems well made and takes me pushing it around well2. Slots for iPad and phone are very useful and well sized, would fit a wide variety of phones and tablets. I have a Galaxy 7 edge and an iPad 2 and there is plenty of room for larger devices (phone only fits standing up short end in the slot with half an inch extra space and iPad has about half an inch extra room on one side when laying down long ways).3. Love the color, it matches all of my other furnitur very well4. The 3 levels at which you can slant the desk are conveniently placed. I may make another level though for extreme height for simple reading purposes5. Drawer for convenient small necessities is very nice, I am never far from a pen anymoreCons:1. The drawer is small, as would be expected, but it has a metal tab installed that halves the usable depth of the drawer becuse of its placement. Definitely slightly frustrating as I have a pen set in a case that would fit perfectly into the drawer if not for the metal tab. I will be trying to remove that tab and/or relocate it soon. This is the most frustrating thing about the desk.2. The legs do not lock in a standing position. As other reviewers have said, this prevents you from being able to drag it across a surface without the legs of one side collapsing. It is not a huge inconvenience and I'm not very put out by it, but I may add a locking mechanism to the legs at some point to remedy this. It is definitely not frustrating enough for me to not use and enjoy the desk3. Slight sloppiness on the finish: I can see how some may have received desks with slight issues in the finish as mine clearly shows some brush strokes from the varnish where it was put on too thick and the mousepad was not completely glued in so it puckers a little bit. Not s big deal on the mousepad part (I use mine as a coaster anyways not a mousepad) because you can smooth the pocket by just pressing down on it. The pucker comes back in a few hours or so but its not bad enough to warrant even pulling it up and re-gluing it.Overall, this desk gets a solid A- and the issues with it, while very tangible, are not enough for me to not recommend buying it. For the price, if you have issues with the drawer/legs then it's worth fixing and if you have a major varnish issue when you get it, exchange it for a new one becuse it is a good desk worth the extra effort.

Well designed, built to last!
I've had this lap desk for over a year now, and its probably the best one I've owned.Pros:-Spacious-Pretty much looks exactly how I bought it even after putting up with me for a year.-Solid, high-quality materials used.Cons:-The legs for the stand are just a little too long. I opted to just set the whole thing on my lap.-Its actually kind of heavy! Comes partially from good materials, and if I used the legs I doubt I'd notice at all.- Other than some earbuds or some cables, the little drawer on the side is pointless. Too small for a standard wireless mouse or other accessories.Overall, its a perfectly good and serviceable lap desk, especially if you plan on chilling out on the couch and playing some games on the laptop for an extended period.

good delivery time
Just received, good delivery time. Don't find it too heavy; wouldn't want something flimsy, feels solid. Didn't notice the soft mouse-pad area on the right, couldn't even recall looking at the price when I ordered it. Didn't expect it to fit between the arms of my leather armchair but it does (not that I was specifically going to be using it in this chair, where the legs of the table go down between the cushions so when I breathe my belly feels a bit constricted against the underside of the table, and I'm not overweight haha). Haven't tried it on bed, sofa yet but I imagine it will be even better using it there. The ipad slot fits my ipad even with its leather case on, which is good. I'm pleased with it. My laptop's fan is at the back not underneath, so that's fine. The only thing, right now using it in my leather armchair, I've got it on the first angle, and bec. only the 2 thirds from the left tilts, it's slightly off, so I've moved my laptop hanging 6-8cm off the edge over the mouse pad area, which is fine.

Perfect for working on the sofa!
I love this laptop table it's just what I needed! My legs kept aching because of the laptop being on them when working on the sofa. Now I don't get this problem and there's a space for my mouse as I'm not keen on the laptop's own mouse. This table is really solid wood and has two slots one for an iPhone or smart phone and one for a tablet or iPad. It's adjustable section makes it perfect for resting a book on or drawing. There's also a little draw that you could store a small pen and pad in. It's perfect!! Would recommend!

This is a great little lap table
This is a great little lap table. Suitable for sitting on the sofa or in bed. Is big enough for a laptop. Also a little side drawer for a pen and notebook. A slot for your mobile phone and an I pad. I use it for writing and colouring in. The desk lifts too and has 3 different height slots. This was just what I was looking for. Was packaged well and delivery prompt. Also has a built in mouse matt. Happy with this.

Beaut!
This is a wonderful piece of kit! Beautifully finished, easy to use, delivered quickly, packaged safe and securely, it's everything I wanted! I did notice a bit of varnish missing from a small section, but the whole item does its job and the small amount of missing varnish (for me) isn't enough to mark the product down a star because I'm pretty happy with it. Would definitely recommend :)

Misleading images
The image you see is very misleading the table did not have the crevices for iPad and phone or the mouse mat as illustrated in the picture. Would have purchased a cheaper version if I had know it would only be a smooth table! Otherwise colour good, quality okay and quite light.
