Must have when working with networks!
I'm a telecom professional and this tool is great! I'm able to accomplish multiple tasks with this one kit that would normally requires multiple seperate testers! I was a little skeptical at is capability for the price but once you started getting the hang of its wonderful! Im able to test continuity, tone and trace cable, determine the length of cable and even test POE! There is a little manual that comes with it but it's not really a complicated tester. Just make sure you are using the right port on the tester to match the test you are trying to conduct! The cable toner i found to be very adequate! You do have an option to test via digital or analog settings and you can adjust the sensitivity for a solid confirmation. It does come with various adapters for different testing conditions. I was to thrilled about the case. I like the layout and the availability of storing things away but I'd prefer a hard case to house it. There have been a couple times ive had something on the toner wand driving and it would turn on and beep but if thats just a preference thing BOTTOM LINE: Highly recommend for the price! The convenience and funtionality that is packed in this kit is definetly worth this price!

Saved my bacon.
So I can't say enough about this little, capable, affordable piece of kit. I do my own cabling for my network. I largely live in Cat 5e. I had an old led type tester that would only show me whether I had a fundamental connectivity problem. That was great for awhile. But recently I moved over to doing pass-through connectors. I noticed on my network switch that my connection speed for a new cable was only 100Mbps though it should have been 1000Mbps. My old tester showed everything was fine, but it obviously wasn't. So I splurged the $50 for this little tester. I confirmed that my crimps were bad due to a faulty crimper. I now speed test all of my new cables with this tester by connecting the tester to one end of the cable and the other end to a spare gigabit switch I have. I liked that it did continuity, length testing and toning. A nice feature is that you can get a reading of the wire speed when you use the toning/flash option. The flash option was great as I wanted to map out my network. I connected to each ethernet jack, connected the tester via a short cable and went into flash mode. I then went to my switch where I could see the light pulsing slowly (differently than regular flashing.) I then noted which switch port that particular jack was connected to. I found that it tones wires fine too. I do run POE+ devices too. So I'll check that out eventually. Anyway. I like it. It wasn't that expensive and did more than I needed it to do. Hoped this helps.

Useful! But materials are a little dubious
As someone who went from working behind a desk as a network engineer to pulling cable several times per month as a contractor, this little kit has been fantastic. All features that I have used (toner, cable tester, port flasher, port tester, port flasher) work well, and seem to be accurate. My biggest issue I run into is battery life, and the case it came with. It will eat through good batteries (Energizer, Duracell) pretty quickly, and the soft case allows the toner and tester to be powered on if you’re not careful about how you place them in soft bags (ie. backpacks). I strongly recommend investing in rechargeable batteries and purchasing a hard case. Build quality and button quality are a little questionable. Everything is made from fairly cheap plastic, and the buttons feel like they would be easy to press too hard and break something inside the unit. Overall, I think this thing is a very useful little tester for someone who isn’t worried about reliability, or who can at least be very certain they can keep it from getting crushed. I will be upgrading to a name-brand unit soon (ie. Klein), but I definitely do not regret buying this.

Awesome Cable Tester with Wand At a Low Low Price
I am a network operator, not a electrician, so this tester doesn't get used on the day to day. My first RJ cable tester was: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M63EMBQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Works great for testing a crimping here and there, but very primitive. I needed an upgrade. I've come onto job sites where someone else has run the RJ45 and nothing is labeled. I'm standing in front of a 24/48 port switch (nothing in the port description) and users are having connectivity issues: the 'wand' in this Kit is extremely useful. Once I've track down the local and distant ends, a quick 'pin-out' check (a diagram on screen that shows any 'shorts' or 'crosses' that's stopped me from tampering with someone's laptop >ipconfig /flushdns/renew/release) and I've eliminated one more point of failure. Haven't utilized the PowerOverEthernet or Length features. I've tested them, but not able to put the information (power output) to use as I wont be familiar with the end device and it's power requirements. That's troubleshooting configuration setting, not cable integrity. There are higher end testers that can conduct speed and ping tests on a port (you'll need the port config's and again: that's beyond cable integrity), or tell you what type of device is on the distant end. If you really need to dig that deep, you should have remote access to the switch, router, hub, bridge...etc, and see at the exact setting the cable was dedicated for, and not through some scanner. You should also have some understanding of the network design. Unless the contractor who laid the cabling had no consistency when dedicating jacket colors to end devices. For example: blue cable jackets will always go to workstations, white cable jackets will always go to Hot Spots, black - cameras, grey - VoIP phones... These higher end testers can come with a lot of fancy features, but rarely will they be of use. For troubleshooting layer 1 issues, this kit has everything you'll need. Even if a cable is 100%, being able to isolate what port it is plugged into on a switch lunges you into the next step of troubleshooting. Countless times: it was either a wrong port, or a port configuration. With the wand, I moved along in the elimination process SOO much faster.

I've used this lots for tracing network cables around the house, testing newly terminated network connections and for checking lengths, and it works brilliantly, it's been so useful. Other than remembering to move to the right network connection on the tester when you change modes, it couldn't be easier. The included cables are for Cat 3 voice connections, so if you're testing a Cat 5/6 connection don't use those, use another cable if you're testing say a socket, otherwise it will only test 3 out of the 4 pairs.

This kit was perfect for wiring a home surveillance and network with a reel of CAT6 cables and terminals. I mis-wired one AP cable THREE times in a row! If it weren’t for the device it would have been a headache. The scan wand is very useful, too. Helped me identify and label a number of cables that lost their labels during their transit in the conduits.
