Good Value - Plug and Play - Great Case
Most newer laptops don't come with a CD/DVD players so when the CD/DVD player/burner on my old laptop died I had no way to access the many music and data CD's and DVD's on my newer work and personal Dell laptops.I went with this Apiker brand as it came with a case, had a dual USB cable (Type-C), and supported USB 3.0 for faster read and transfer speeds. It also had two additional USB ports, a Micro-SD slot, and a standard SD slot which was a big plus.To be honest, for the price I really wasn't expecting much from this CD/DVD player and burner, but was pleasantly surprised at not only the CD/DVD player/burner but the case as well. The CD/DVD player/burner was simply plug and play with no additional software or drivers to load. I also liked the dual USB cable that tucks into bottom of the player, so one less cable I have to worry about losing when traveling. The USB ports and the Micro-SD and standard SD also worked flawlessly. And the semi-hard case was also a nice bonus as the player fits in nicely and the hard sides and padded bottom not only makes it easy to carry this player but adds a good amount of protection.I have not used the DVD burner capabilities of this player/burner yet but I'm not expecting any issues. I'm still marveled at the quality of the CD/DVD player/burner and case that I got for this price. The seller did a pretty good job with pictures of the CD/DVD player/burner but only showed a little of the case, so I've included a couple of pics below. I hope this review was somewhat helpful.

Works perfectly on Linux Ubuntu! Tested on Ubuntu 20.04, and it was plug-and-play. Just plug it in.
Works perfectly on Linux Ubuntu! Tested on Ubuntu 20.04, and it was plug-and-play. No hassle, just plug it in.I used a USB 3.0 port on my PC, and it had enough power to work just fine.If you have power problems, try the following: plug into a USB 3.0 port, NOT a USB 2.0 port, as 3.0 ports can supply 2x the power, and/or: plug in the additional micro USB power cable they provided to the back of the device. Plug the main end into a cell phone charger or something, and the other end into the back of the CD/DVD drive.I copied a 3 GB data DVD in 17.5 minutes, which was 2.83 MB/sec on average, using `rsync` like this:`time rsync -rah --info=progress2 --stats '/media/USERNAME/DVD NAME' ~/destination/dir`Sample statistics output screen at end:```$ time rsync -rah --info=progress2 --stats '/media/USERNAME/DVD NAME' ~/destination/dir2.98G 100% 2.71MB/s 0:17:29 (xfr#3920, to-chk=0/4944)Number of files: 4,944 (reg: 3,920, dir: 1,024)Number of created files: 4,944 (reg: 3,920, dir: 1,024)Number of deleted files: 0Number of regular files transferred: 3,920Total file size: 2.98G bytesTotal transferred file size: 2.98G bytesLiteral data: 2.98G bytesMatched data: 0 bytesFile list size: 65.53KFile list generation time: 0.001 secondsFile list transfer time: 0.000 secondsTotal bytes sent: 2.98GTotal bytes received: 81.34Ksent 2.98G bytes received 81.34K bytes 2.83M bytes/sectotal size is 2.98G speedup is 1.00real 17m31.650suser 0m41.922ssys 0m19.801s```See my answer on the "Ask Ubuntu" question titled "How to show the transfer progress and speed when copying files with cp?". Doesn't seem to work, but adapter makes it happen
I bought a macbook pro -Apple - MacBook Pro - 13" Display with Touch Bar - Intel Core i5 - 8GB Memory - 256GB SSD (Latest Model) - Space Gray -and it does not even detect the apiker at all. The usb barely fits in the port. I hope I am just missing something, but for now, not happy. After getting a type-c hub pro, the apiker fired up immediately playing the dvd I inserted. I may be missing something with the direct connect, apiker to my new mac.

Nice Quality External Hard Drive with Protective Case with lots of options for other attachments.
I needed this external hard drive to load the latest microsoft excel onto my Alienware laptop which had no disc drive. The hard drive worked flawlessly & I am happy to have crossed this bridge. In addition, I travel overseas some to visit family, allows me to take some DVD's with pictures & display them easily. Nice Quality, came with a protective case to bring it in my carry-on flying abroad.

DVD(r/rw) Apiker with case
What a great way to add a dvd/cd burner to a laptop that doesn't have one. It's been a while since I was shopping for a laptop and didn't realize they didn't come standard with a cd/DVD drive. This works like a champ. Great price. It comes with a cable attached, and an extra one in the case.

Doesn’t read cd/dvds on mac os 10.15.6
Came in mail today. Drive was in the carry case, no box, inside yellow amazon envelop with the bubble wrap. reads sd card and usb flash drive, but doesn’t read disc. Tried dvd with home movie (prev watched on Sony blu ray player), commercial dvd (prev watched on Sony blu ray player), commercial music cd (prev listened to in car stereo), and a Linux install disc (used to install on another computer). Tried all 4 usb-c ports with usb-c cable and then usb cable with adapter to usb-c .. no disc shows up. Each time drive spins up like it’s reading the disc, then spins down and stops, gives 3 soft beeps, pauses for about 3 seconds, then repeats.UPDATE: on win10, item played above music cd with media player. above dvd movie did not play in media player; did not have another media player to try with.home computer is mac os 10.15.6, which is what I got item for. tested with usb 2.0 hub w/external power source -- plays above music cd in itunes and disney dvd movie in VLC, but did not read paw patrol dvd nor recognize burned dvd. tried again w/computer's usb 3.0 ports and no change.UPDATE: tried again w/home computer's usb 3.0 ports. item now plays disney dvd movie in VLC. still cannot read burned dvd.
