The new MDD v1.2 is the easiest direct drive conversion available for your Creality Ender-5 3D printer. Fully installed with the factory creality hot end and extruder, it's lighter than most direct drives, and takes just 20-30 minutes to install-- with no firmware changes, no volume loss, and no cutting or splicing required. While compatible with many hot end and extruders, the MDD was engineered to turn your stock components into a powerful direct drive system with no additional hardware needed, making it the simplest direct drive system for your Creality 3D printer. No firmware changes are needed when using stock extruder and hot end, though we recommend starting with a new slicer profile with a retraction of 1.0mm and ooze control (coast, wipe, etc.) turned OFF. Highlights Increase print quality, simplify retractions and fix extrusion. Lightweight and rigid mount lets you to print fast. Print high temp and flexibles - up to 260ºC+ on the stock hot end. Simplify filament changes. No firmware flashing. No cutting / splicing wires. Works with stock extruder and hot end. Fits many printable mods. Simple 20 min. install (instructions provided). Tech Specs CNC machined 6063 aluminum. Injection molded fittings. Weighs ~478g installed (w/ hot end, extruder, motor, fan shroud, wiring, all fittings, hardware). Wire harness extension included. Excellent materials, great Direct Drive Kit.
Excellent Direct Drive kit. Fits perfectly on my Ender 3 Pro. The Hero Me didn't fit, but the remix from Teaching Tech fits like a glove. I'm using 1mm retract and no coast and almost got zero stringing using PETG. The quality of the materials is awesome, no 3d printed parts, all metal main plate. Easy instructions. The suggested wiring is a little weird so I routed the cables as the original. Looks clean and neat. The quality of my prints improved a lot.I 100% recommend this kit. You can't go wrong.

wish this came as factory standard
First let me state I ordered the cr 10 version.I like the rigidity of this adapter plate and installing the plate itself is quite simple. If you order the cr10 version you do not need a bowden tube connector on the feeder side of the extruder going to the hotend, there are a couple video's on youtube that shows them putting one on this will cause you much aggrivation since when you do this you have the hotend connector and the extruder connector wanting to occupy the same space.just use one on the hotend and cut a bowden tube to lenght to be as close to the extruder gear as you can be this will be trial and error but once you get it to the right lenth loading is easy and this baby will rock and roll .you will need to adjust your retraction settings or you will get clogs i set mine to .6 from a 6mm with a bowden tube and it works awesome you will also have to adjust your esteps for feed.this is the easiest direct drive system i have found that is sturdy enough and light enough to really make you wish this had come installed from the factory.fan shrouds are hard to find if you have only one printer you might want to head over to thingiverse and look for one that will fit the low clearence you now have. Also would be great if some fang fan shrouds were developed for this product since original one you need to use is not the best.

Well thought out conversion kit.
If you want to make better prints, print with TPU or generally make better use of your Creality 3D printer, then you need go no further. This kit is a great little light kit that moves your extruder from the side with a bowden line to the top of your hot end. It obviously adds the weight of the small kit AND your NEMA 17 Stepper motor to the top of the hot end where momentum can cause some shadows and other effects. Simply be sure you are slowing down more around corners and you will not get the effects. This is a great product that I whole heartedly endorse. I really appreciate the difference it's made in my prints, and if I need to buy another Ender 5, CR10 Ender 3 or any of the families that use this product, I will be buying it again.

Does it's Job
I was able to convert my original bowden CR-10 to a direct drive using this kit. The process took about 15 minutes and required no additional parts. The aluminum replacement support plate is solid and well built as well, and instructions were simple and clear to follow. There are a couple of things to be aware of when installing this kit:1.) Heavy! because the stepper motor is in front of the extruder. The entire print head is top heavy, it puts a lot of weight on the X axis assembly causing it to lean forward on the X axis. I highly recommend replacing the stock stepper with a slimmer and lighter one.2.) You will need to change your printer configuration after installing. This is mentioned in the instructions but I think a little more specifics would help. I had to change my E-Steps from 95 to 116. I had to change my retraction settings from 8 to 2.That's pretty much it, if your looking for a cheap way to convert to a direct drive extruder without printing any parts then this is the best way.

A must have add on for Ender 5 Printer
This direct drive is a basically a new plate that you use to remount your existing hot end and extruder. The installation took a bit of work as the instructions from this company were lackluster. However, I was successful once I found a video from Basaraba (sorry, no url - Amazon policies won't let me to link in review). I installed with new belt tensioners and definitely noticed much better print quality once this set of upgrades were complete. Would install again. Would not buy from this seller. Basaraba seems a much better vendor.

It's GREAT...if you have a stock hotend and little to no accessories.
First, this is mainly for those using stock cooling parts and little to no accessories. I have a V6 on my Ender 5. I have a printed mount for it, the cooling fan, and my EZAL. The instructions are terrible, and I hear the video in the rest of the reviews is helpful. I’ve taken my printers apart so many times I figured out how to do this quickly.I had to trim a lot from the top of my mount to get the stepper to fit, and even now I’m not thrilled with how it all looks but it’s functioning. I had to trim and adjust the holders for my EZAL and the cooling fan. The fan is angled because the let end protrudes forward and reversing it causing wear-n-tear as well as squeaking. I printed a mount for the stepper, which I then trimmed and used as spacers to line the feeder as best I could.Would I recommend this? SURE! If you’re not using modified hotend mounts or accessories. If you are, I suggest you hold off and research other options for a direct drive. If you’re like me, you can disassemble the printer and reassemble it, then you have a project to work on. But this was not a plug-n-play situation for me.
