Product Description FBI Special Agent Don Eppes recruits his mathematical genius brother Charlie to help the Bureau solve a wide range of challenging crimes in Los Angeles. The two brothers take on the most confounding criminal cases from a very distinctive perspective. Assisting Don at the FBI is behavioral specialist Megan Reeves and FBI agents David Sinclair and Colby Granger. Charlies colleagues at the University where he teaches include Dr. Larry Fleinhardt and former grad student Amita Ramanjuan, both of whom offer their math expertise to assist Charlie with the most perplexing cases. Don and Charlies father, Alan Eppes, is pleased to see his two sons working together, but fears their competitive nature will lead to trouble. .com Some key subtractions and additions invigorate the engrossing third season of this smart series about an FBI team led by Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) who gets assistance on its toughest cases by Don's brother, Charlie (David Krumholtz), a mathematical genius. Peter MacNicol, as eccentric physics professor Larry Fleinhardt, Charlie's mentor, departed mid-season for a stint on 24. Diane Farr, as FBI profiler Megan Reeves, left on maternity leave. Enter Kathy Najimy as Charlie's new boss, Mildred ("Millie") Finch, and the exotic Aya Sumika as Special Agent Liz Warner, to give the show what the creators call, in a bonus season retrospective, "more girl energy." What separates Numb3rs from TV's other, and more grisly, procedural shows is that it emphasizes brains over bleech and intellect over ick. Enjoyment of Numb3rs is not dependent on your knowledge of "multi-attribute compositional models," "hidden variable theory," or "quadratic discriminate analysis," Just do what the confounded agents on Don's team do whenever Charlie explains how he applies his "intuitive synthesis of established mathematical principles and theorems" to manhunting: "Nod your head and wait for the punchline." Big picture, the cases are compelling in themselves: a psyche-scarred teacher and her young lover embark on a murder spree; a valuable painting originally stolen by Nazis is heisted from an art gallery; someone is bent on killing, not catching, child predators; a music mogul's son is kidnapped; a sinkhole that destroys a school playground reveals the cover-up of illegal toxic waste dumping. Season 3 also fleshes out the characters. The competitive brothers express newfound respect for each other ("It's amazing how you see things," Don tells Charlie at one point). Charlie and Amita (Navi Rawat), who has accepted a position at the university to teach and do research, attempt to take their budding romantic relationship to the next level. Megan and Larry also become a couple. And in the thrilling and suspenseful season finale, "The Janus List," there is a startling revelation about one of the members on Don's team. Among the notable guest stars include Lou Diamond Phillips, reprising his role as Agent Edgerton, who is willing to cross ethical lines that Don is not. In the episode "Provenance," Gena Rowlands gives a heartbreaking performance as a woman whose family was decimated by the Holocaust. Add such extras as selected episode commentaries, bloopers, and an entertaining set tour with Krumholtz, Morrow, and Judd Hirsch, who helps to anchor the series as Don and Charlie's father, and you have a season whose DVD release is a "special equation." --Donald Liebenson

Another Great Season of "Numb3rs"
In the police drama "Numb3rs," math professor Charlie Eppes (David Krumholtz) consults for the FBI, helping his agent brother Don (Rob Morrow) and his team solve crimes. Early in its run "Numb3rs" got pretty good ratings and became a Friday night fixture on CBS, and this DVD set contains all 24 episodes of the show's third season that were originally aired from September 2006 to May 2007.In Season Three, the series shows the same quality writing as in its previous two seasons, but introduces new characters and develops the personal lives of the Eppes brothers a bit more, portraying their conflicts, misunderstandings with friends, romantic relationships, and personal and professional struggles. Some of the mathematical concepts Charlie uses this season include randomness, sabermetrics, probability, and the game concept theory of tit-for-tat, and his mathematical tips help Don and the FBI investigate and solve situations dealing with murder, robbery, blackouts, sinkholes, polygamy, kidnapping, terrorism, a plane crash, and an assassination. Alan Eppes (Judd Hirsch), the father of Don and Charlie, even helps out in a couple of the cases in this season. The season ends with a shocking season finale, and this DVD set contains several special features, including a tour of the set house. Some series fall off after the first couple of seasons, but "Numb3rs" certainly did not--those who enjoyed the first two seasons will enjoy this one just as much.

good show bad disk
Numb3rs - The Third Season I bought two copies of Numb3rs season three and found the first disk to be defective on both. I bought a copy for myself and a friend and found both copies had a bad fist disk, the menu wouldn't play on either DVD player and I would get a preview for Twin Peaks and SOMETIMES the first episode of Numb3rs, if it didn't freeze at the end of the previews, then it would jump to the first episode. It never played past the first episode, just giving me a black screen.I could watch the whole disk on my computer by bypassing the menu and going directly to the episodes, something my DVD player won't do. So buyer beware, once is accident, twice isn't. I own seasons 1 and 2 had no problems with them. I loved the show and even with the defect in the disk, I recomend this series strongly. I give the series five stars but the disk brings it down one.Richard Robinson Springfield,Ohio

The concept of the show is interesting and the actors are very good. I loved Rob Morrow in Northern Exposure
Even though math usually gives me a headache, this is a very interesting show. The concept of the show is interesting and the actors are very good. I loved Rob Morrow in Northern Exposure, and of course Judd Hursh is always entertaining. The dynamics between the two brothers is fun to watch. I have two brothers who work together, so this is familiar to me. Even if you don't understand the math, the show is still interesting to watch.

Don't let the wild mathematics turn you off. It is a great part of the fun!
Excellent theme and even better characters. Their development is fun to watch and well written.

it keeps on rolling
who thought that a show about mathematics and crime solving would be both interesting and engaging to watch at the same time. Season 3 is chock full of engaging characters, situations and stories that will keep any and all interested in this ever growing and popular TV show. Numb3rs is on the way up and Season 3 has more than enough intrigue, mystery, romance and quite a bit of betrayal in it (The Janus List) a lot of things get brought out into the open and one surprise that i didnt ever see coming at all.Enjoy this one because from the looks of it Rob Morrow, David Krumholtz, Judd Hirsch and the rest of the gang are in for heck of a ride in Season 4.

a great show that keeps to high standards
I have all the seasons currently available on DVDs - watching the 3d season right now and it never dissapoints. I am not even pretending I could understand most of its mathematics, but the "adaptation" is done with real elegance so that your average non-mathematician is often nicely tickled by understanding so much :) The series also keep a careful and well balanced proportion between brain part and emotions part, so the relationships and friendships are interesting to watch but they do not drag a clever and fascinating crime series into a family drama. One of the best crime/investigation series around, together with Criminal Minds, Without a Trace and CSI. Hope it stays around for many more seasons.
