Better than the $600 El Casco Sharpener
This is by far my favorite pencil sharpener. Unlike most others, this puts a slightly concave tip on the pencil—great for durability and much more aesthetically pleasing. It’s adjustable (so you can control the thickness of the sharpened tip—great for putting a thick tip on a pencil for an artistic project and then a sharp tip on a pencil for writing) and is easy to use. It’s small for a crank sharpener, easy to empty, and very sharp—don’t cuts very quickly. I’ve tried almost all of the major sharpeners out there (including the much more expensive El Casco) and this is by far the best.

Best sharpener
I love this sharpener so much!! This is the second one I have bought even though the first one still works great, I didn’t want to keep taking it everywhere I went. I believe one of the best features is that after your pencil has been sharpened you will feel the blades stop eating away from the wood. That feature alone is worth it for colorists, artists, or hobbyist who put a lot of money into their pencils. The silver knob on the backside can also be adjusted to your point preference. So if you need a sharp point for details you can accomplish that as well as a more blunted point for softer applications. The clear tray pulls out smoothly for shaving disposal and it can be mounted to the desk or shelf. I will point out that the lever on the side needs to be pushed in when loading your pencil into it because this pulls the rubber discs that hold the pencil in place when sharpening back. You never want to force your pencils in always push in lever. It also works great with the square brutfuner pencils.

One sharpener to rule them all
This is my favorite sharpener--checks all the boxes for me. --It gives a serviceable point, not the longest or most elegant but quite nice. --It handles pencils of almost any wood; I haven't yet encountered a pencil that chokes it (even cheap ones or those with a wrap, but if you're shopping for a sharpener like this I assume you're smart enough not to be using truly terrible pencils anyway). --The rubber grips don't put bite marks in the pencil. --Handles tris, mini jumbos, and jumbos. I've used one of these for several years, through hundreds of pencils, with no detectable difference in performance. I own several other crank sharpeners; some give a longer, more elegant point (Carl Angel 5, Deli, etc) but all have a significant weakness--leaving bite marks, choking or failing to stop sharpening on some kinds of wood, oversharpening (cranking forever) on soft grade or colored pencils, having too small an aperture for larger barrels, etc. It's a cute little workhorse. Highly recommend adding googly eyes to the feed plate.

Very good and versatile
Key points versus others: rubber pencil grips, not metal teeth; extra large opening for jumbo sizes versus merely a large opening; a variable point adjustment versus two or no choice. The point bluntness is adjustable, not the tip angle, so you always get a narrow angle. The exposed surface is very clean and the side is slightly concave rather than flat. It seems to sharpen on center very well, which will reveal the pencils that don't have well-centered cores. A down side is the mount; the feet are not very grippy, so when I mounted it to the shelf, I added some grippy thin foam under it and also some for where the clamp grips the under side of the shelf. It does take some getting used to, and it is clear some people never get that you need to pull the front part out first. As far as the body being plastic, this is fine except I would want the handle to be metal also, but I've had no problems so far. Because this has a larger opening than most, it can put a really nice point on larger pencils that you would otherwise have to use a handheld sharpener for, which will have a shorter point for large sized pencils. For example, the Dixon Tri-conderogas come with a little sharpener since many won't handle its larger size, and it puts an acceptable ho-hum point on them. However, the Dahle is able to give them a lovely long point (see https://mobile.twitter.com/RyanGray/status/578974339384512513/photo/1). A blunter setting works great for colored pencils and is much more reliable than a handheld sharpener.

This is the best pencil sharpener I’ve ever used. I love it. Works great on coloured pencils, Hb pensions and sketching pencils I love the way you set it and it gives you a perfect cut every time. I only have the use of one hand and I can manage it just fine After sharpening all my pencils it stopped sharpening. I took it apart it worked a few times and then stopped again. Now I haven’t been able to get it to start again. I love it but if it’s only going to work for a couple of months it’s not worth it. I am so disappointed 😔

This really does live up to the hype. I use it for mainly colored pencils and I can get the exact point I like. It has a range of settings and is easy to adjust, I like how it holds the pencil in place as it sharpens.
