Q: will these fit in the tamiya m-05

I don't specifically have a M-05 but have numerous Tamiya cars (F201s, TA01-02 and others) and it fits them all.

Q: Will it fit in a Kyosho Optima Mid please?

If it takes an old school stick pack, yes. Got an old tamiya car like an old battery

Q: Do these batteries protect themselves from discharge below the safe voltage for lithium batteries, or is that up to the device they're connected to?

That Feature is dependent on the ESC having the Low Voltage Cut Off. Not the Battery. These batteries ROCK for classic Tamiya or Kyosho etc. They fit perfectly.

Q: Will these work with the midnight pumpkin and lunch box?

Yes, these batteries will fit the Tamiya Lunchbox and Midnight Pumpkin.
