Makes faded soft tops and trail doors look new
I’m really impressed with Forever Black Top. Application is easy with the included applicator sponge, though I still recommend wearing gloves.I used this to restore the black color on my Bestop Core Trail Doors (painted metal doors that were looking dull and dirty) and it made them look new again. I do need to re-apply a couple times per season, but that’s not a big deal.I just used it on a Bestop soft top - the material now looks rich and fully restored instead of faded. The bottle goes a long way - my first one lasted 2 years, which is why I just bought a second bottle. Great value for the results you get.

4Ever Black convertible Top
Forever Black convertible top renewer is nice to have to renew your Black color of a convertible top. I applied it to a Canvas top of a 24 years old Porsche Boxster and it did a nice job. I should take 1 Star off because of the Sponge came apart so easy !!! It dries about 15 minutes inside your garage if you don’t apply it heavily. I left it about 3 hours before drive out to the Sun. It was Ok after that. It was not fade out as people said it is. It really made my top look cleaner, not a brand new but at least 75 to 86% was restored to the original. I would recommend it to everybody I know. Good quality for the Black solution , not good for the Sponge came with it. 1 bottle of 8 Oz. Can do 2 convertible top easily.

It works
Well I don’t think this can make any convertible top look like new. It definitely improves an old worn out like mine was. I wish I hadn’t read the instructions a little better and knew that I could dilute the job. It’s a little hard to apply to a canvas top with a sponge applicator so for my second coat, I diluted it a little bit and brushed it on. It was so much better

Works great, if you know what you are doing.
I’m a huge researcher what comes to buying stuff. I purchased a 2013 Mustang Convertible, oh boy, how I love that car, however it looked slightly worn for my taste, including the top, but I was sure there is stuff out there, that can make it better and purchased the car a week ago.So first off - I read some mixed reviews, and wasn’t sure about this product, however after using it myself, I think for the ones it failed, they may have applied it sloppy or done it on direct sunlight. I once asked my friend to help me paint a room, oh boy, never again, he had no clue how to handle a paint roll. Also make sure that the top or the plastic you will apply the dye to it, is completely cool. I don’t have a garage so, I picked a shady spot but one side of the top was hot from the sun and I applied the dye. It evaporated immediately and made it look lighter and then I though about the review, where someone complained that it ruined their top for making it lighter. For a second I felt the same way, but was optimistic because I made the similar mistake with a different restorer on a different piece a day ago. So I waited for the top to cool down, I ended up doing 3 coats and it looks perfect. With this dye, I felt that more was better and that’s why I ended up with 3 coats. I got rid of the streaks in the middle with the 4th half coat. So I just applied in the middle and somewhat rubbed/faded it off to both sides directions and it did the trick. You need gloves, it does get on your hands. Some people complained about the sponge, I found it to be a great tool, no issues. Few spots that I couldn’t reach with the sponge, because it was just so big, I applied some dye on my finger and used that to apply. Some drops fell on my car, if you don’t notice those spots right away to wipe off with a wet towel, let them dry and they will come off with giving a slight scrape with the fingernail perfectly. Also some complain it doesn’t take out lighter spots, I think, if you just do first and perhaps second coats only on those lighter spots for prep, it will cover it nicely, you may need just more coats overall to even it out. It’s the same if you don’t add primer before painting your wall, you end up doing 4-5 coats to for the color shade to look even.Again my top wasn’t in a bad condition at all, I just wanted to look like new and I didn’t like the light seam, so it gave it the darkness and a shine. And I have to say, I think the dye has darkened over few hours. Because initially I wished it to look darker but after curing few hours it really does. Pictures are taken right before and after.

Top Color Change from Tan to Black
6/24/17 - UpdateThe color change (Tan to Black) has been on my Jeep's back window for over 6 months now. It is mostly intact with a few wear areas that slightly show the tan underneath. It should be noted that this is probably from dropping the top. Since I live in VIrginia the top has only been down a handful of times since it is a little to cold for that in the winter here. We will see if the wear is worse over the summer. I have included a photo showing the change. I would still recommend this product. I have plenty remaining the the bottle to touch up the worn areas. I hope this helps other looking to make this type of change.Top Color Change with Pictures on a Jeep Wrangler Rear Window. I used this to change the color of a used rear top window from tan to black and here are the results. First the positive. The kit has all the equipment (except tape) that is needed to apply the color. The gel applied easily and went a long way on the exterior of the windows surface. It also dries quickly with no stick residue. I did not complete the entire top but one bottle should be enough for my Jeep. The rest of this review is not negative but a word of caution if changing colors. As stated above the gel goes a long way on the exterior. After the first coat dried the tan was still barely visible. I applied a second coat that gave me >95% color coverage. I cannot see any tan however the black is still a little lighter than the un-treated black top. Although I only did a small section, I am confident that a minimum of two coats would be needed to make a non-black top black.I also applied the gel to the inside surface of my top's window. That surface is highly absorbent. The manufacture recommends diluting the gel when using it in this manner. If you are planning to change the color of the interior of your top additional bottle(s) may be needed. There is no way one would have covered the interior of my Wrangler undiluted. It should be noted that nowhere on the Forever Black packaging or website is this advertized as a color change product. It did work for me in this application. Attached are pictures of the contents, first coat coverage and the window installed next to the untreated original black top. I hope this is helpful to anyone contemplating a color change.
