Q: Will these keep a mattress topper in place with the actual mattress ?

Yes. I attach them to the four corners of the mattress topper under the mattress and the topper stays in place.

Q: Is there a trick to opening the clips?

No tricks, the holder straps use the same clips as used on suspenders.

Q: My sheets are not long enough to go underneath the mattress. Would this still work?

They go under the matter but don't pull the sheet under, I have found them brilliant and I think you will find a gigantic improvement with your sheets

Q: Sheet too big will they pull it in? Trying to use single fiuted on 2ft6 bed

Yes but it takes time to position the three clips and at each corner: one into the corner of the sheet, and the other two to about the mid point of a shorter and a longer side. Possibly worth it if mattress not too heavy but I resorted to buying a firmly all-around- elasticated sheet instead. Oh, but that would only work if it were the right size for the bed. The clips on elastic are probably the best bet for a bigger sheet on a smaller bed.
