No, you can't put this in a washing machine. Wax will get washed out and brass fittings will get verdegris. You can wipe the waxed canvas down with a wet cloth, even with some soap if necessary. Not much will stick to the wax anyway.

It had two sides, when you open the bag. It has slots in the left and on the right.

You might be right, maybe also be rivet.. bring it to a dhir repair shop
