Q: Is it protect from hot cooktop?

No. It is protection against sharp things cutting you. They're great in the garden where there are thorns and some sharp tool.

Q: Are these good for working around cactus?

They work good in green briers should be ok in cactus.

They are comfortable and can be worn for as long as you want. The elastic at the upper arm may be tight if your upper arm is large.

Q: Will these withstand a parrot bite?

Been there. Will probably withstand the cutting and bleeding but not the pain of the pinching of the jaws. Parrots have one of most PPSI bites of any critters in comparison to their size.
