Q: how does it handle seltzer water because the last bottle i had the seltzer water always fizzed through the seems of the bottle?

I doubt it would fizzle through the seams, but I can bet it will come shooting out the spout when you open it. Any change in pressure makes the liquid squirt out. We had a pretty good water bath on our flight last week when my daughter flipped it open at 30,000 feet. Even with barometric changes it can sometimes spit some out when opened. So, I would be very cautious with a carbonated beverage. For non-carbonated it is fantastic.

Q: Can you take off the straw and tip it to drink?

Just tried this. It can be done but makes weird noises and actually seems a bit more difficult to get a drink.

Not really, my 8 y/o carries hers around with ease, even packs it in her backpack for school each day and she never complain. When out and about, I put mine in my purse but your purse must be large enough to carry it. It keeps me and my family from drinking soda/juice throughout the day because we always have ice cold water on standby. The need to stay hydrated outweighs the weight.
