The Adult Years: Mastering the Art of Self-Renewal Revised Edition

This text is both informative for the individual and insightful to the development of those around us. It brings out into the open questions we have all had and continually have as we grow and develop in that large chunk of life known predominantly and solely as adulthood.

Love it... excellent quality for a used book!

The premise of this book is that as adults learn to master the change process within their own lives the will find new ways to renew their families, workplaces and culture. The author asserts that personal mastery of change is critical to the renewal process, and that we are in a constant state of renewal cycles (personally, culturally, in our workplace, in human systems). This book identifies skill and competencies that empower adults throughout the life cycle. I definitely saw myself in the book, and was able to relate to the phase I'm heading toward quite easily. I grabbed some helpful nuggets along the way. There are many case studies to outline the framework for how adults can proceed vitally from 20s through 100s. The only thing stopping me from giving 5 stars is that there are some repetitive parts, but overall I found this book very useful!

The concept of our lives being cyclical rather than linear is true. The book does get quite repetitive though. That being said, it is encouraging that the field of psychology is giving attention to development in the adult years.

This book contains timeless principles for guiding anyone through the inevitable transitions of life. It is superbly written.

Execllent insight into what makes us change as adults.

I liked this book because it took a courageous look at the value of adult development beyond what "popular culture" generally assumes. The developmental approach was well articulated over the adult years which was encouraging to me as I approach a challenging career transition.

Haven't finished reading it, but so far find it really helpful in exploring the Renewal model which I have been using with my clients for many years.
