Cateye CC-CD200 Astrale 8-function Bicycle Computer
Not just good, it's good enough!I just got back on my bicycle after a long absence, I had a couple of early generation Cateye computers that didn't have the automatic start-stop function. With the old computers every once in a while, I would forget to Start the computer after stopping for a short while. But, now that I'm older...I forget even more often! Very irritating. The Cateye CC-CD200 does everything my old Cateye did plus it automatically starts and stops when you start and stop your bicycle. My girlfriend's Botrager Trip 1 bicycle computer broke recently, so I replaced it with a Cateye CC-CD200 like mine...it has the Cadence function that her old Botrager was missing. My girlfriend often seems to choose the wrong gear for going up hills, this Cadence function will help give an indication of when to shift gears for optimum performance and help in choosing gears to reduce the strain on knees. One thing my girlfriend's Botrager Trip 1 did that the Cateye CC-CD200 can not do is it allows you to enter any odometer reading. This would have come in handy, since my girlfriend had put on a some miles before the Botrager broke. She had to start from a zero odometer reading with the new Cateye. If you log a hard copy of your ride info, it won't really be a big problem.I did look at the new Garmin bicycle GPS computers...they are still priced pretty high. The best thing about the Garmin is it is easy to mount...no wires, they use satellites to determine speed, etc. I'm guessing the Garmin GPS computer doesn't do too well in the urban areas that interfere with satellite connections. If the Garmin could record a bicycle route like a hiking GPS...where you can backtrack to your starting point if need be or use the same route on another day or if State bicycle paths were available on the Garmin bicycle GPS(since a lot of bike trails/paths are not always well marked), then I might have considered the Garmin. For now, I'm happy with my new Cateye that starts and stops automatically without my having to remember to turn it on and off every time I stopped. It has all the basic functions I need, and is reasonably priced.

I'll miss you, you beautiful beast
I bought this bike computer in 2016. I remember the day it arrived. I was overjoyed when it was pulled from the box. Brand new for the whole world to see. Gently I lifted it, cradled it and cooed "I have such sights to show you."With great eagerness I attached the various required pieces to my bike and calibrated the Astrale and we've been going strong ever since. The Astrale had been rained on, dropped, accidentally flung on multiple occasions and even a collision. Not once did it balk at it's purpose. Not once did it malfunction. I don't think I even ever had to change the battery. Through thick and thin, this device proved its dependability. I could finally show Mick Jones what love was.Alas, love is fleeting. In time, this too must pass. Today, while we were enjoying each others company for a pre-dawn outing, I went to view my cadence and accidentally popped the Astrale off from the handle bars and into the maw of a dubious storm drain waiting precariously to my right. I collapsed to my knees. Sobbing. Broken. Defeated. Begging for just one ride, nay, one more moment to share with my dear Astrale. How could I go on?I retreated homeward and immediately began looking for another Astrale to fill the growing void inside of me. The fates care not for our mortal needs. I search in vain for a CAT EYE CC-CD200 Astrale. But when I shout "Astrale" in the abyss, the abyss whispers back "Currently unavailable."All is lost. All is bleak. Abandon hope, all ye who venture forward without a CAT EYE CC-CD200 Astrale. There has never been a better budget friendly bike computer.

Solid computer
This is a very good bike computer for the price. Its easy to read the output, etc. In that regard I would highly recommend it. I had a hard time getting the part that connects to the actual computer mounted on the bike. If you move it the wrong way you can't get the plastic piece to disconnect. Be careful when installing this part because its easy to break. Too, the only complaint is the lack of instructions. Follow the picture manual carefully. After I got the computer holder mounted on the handlebar it was much easier after that. Again, you don't have to strain your eyes to read the output and not that hard to install. Just go slowly. Great bargain.

Three Stars
Perfectly functional for cadence but I'm too lazy to figure out the other functions.

NOT FOR REAR WHEEL INSTALLATION!!!!
If you want to get this to mount on the rear wheel area so you can get your speed from a indoor bike mount.....DON'T DO IT!!! The magnet pickup points the wrong way. The rear tire support is horizontal not vertical as is the front fork. When mounted horizontally the pickup is too far from the spoke magnet. They need to be within 5mm of each other. I guess you could build up the mount with lots of spacers but you shouldn't have to do that. It's a total waste for speed but I suppose it would be fine for cadence if that's what you want. Also.....INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ARE WORTHLESS. No verbiage....just very poor pictures that are numbered with no reference to instruction sheet.

Deja vu...
This is old technology, but nearly bulletproof. It is my second Cateye Astrale 8 and the first one never let me down, so I am expecting the same with this one. Installation was easy and programming was straightforward. It comes with a good set of PRINTED(!) instructions, which is unusual these days.Just be careful in the rain as the display unit is not water resistant. In a rainstorm I use a small sandwich baggie or a small piece of cellophane wrapped over the top and secure it at the back with a rubber band. Stretched tight over the top either solution works perfectly and leaves the display clear enough to read through the plastic. If you're looking for a simple cyclometer with cadence at a reasonable price point, you can't go wrong with the Cateye Astrale 8.
