Between Two Kingdoms

This is an amazing and sometimes uncomfortably personal account of a young woman's battle with cancer. Funny and heartwrenching this true story is worth reading for anyone, but for those of us who have some experience in this area, or are still in the midst of fighting this horrible disease, it is particularly relatable. Definitely worth the read.

Heart-touching and sincere. It's been a while since I read a book that touched my soul like this one. It's introspective, full of real-life wisdom, and inspiring at the same time. I cried, smiled, and dreamed thinking of what Suleika wrote and lived. It's a book I will share for sure.

Between Two Kingdoms captures the complex emotions of living with illness so beautifully that you’ll be forever changed after reading this story.

What a wonderful book, written with a lot of courage, honesty and love. Cancer is not an easy subject to share, but the author did it with ease and I would read anything she writes!

I bought this book immediately once I knew it was about a girl in her 20s who got a diagnosis that changed her life to the point she recovered and was unable to find the way to normal life again.If you had told me when I was ill that rejoining life, take control again, was going to be so difficult and lonely, I would've never believed you. You dream of your doctors saying: "Congratulations, you recovered and you're healthy again! Go back to your life right where you left it!". But that never happens. A part of rejoining the kingdom of the well means going back to the kingdom of the ill sometimes; your weakened body and immune system remember what you'd like to forget.Illness is lonely, even if you're surrounded by your loved ones. When you're sick for a long time, you lose everything that defines you, disease takes your identity away. The feeling of isolation is so cruel that you can't stop feeling it once everything's over. As soon as you get the diagnosis, your brain goes into survival mode. How can you tell your brain that everything's fine again, just like that? How can you tell yourself: "I'm going back to my life" when your life is changed forever you don't even want to do the things you used to? If you are a completely different person now?I loved reading about Suleika Jaouad's feelings through leukemia and its aftermath. This has been an enriching book and a must read for me. It has given me hope since I'd like this book to reach more people like me who's trying to get back to their lives, so they understand there's no "going back", but walking forward toward a new life. Thank you Suleika Jaouad for writing this book. This was healing.
