Q: Can you put pins in this?

I wouldn't. It's a hard material and it would be difficult as well as detrimental to the globe.

Q: Does this globe show Taiwan as a separate country, as it is in reality? I'm looking to educate my children, not make them idiots.

This very small globe shows Taiwan with a yellow center and a thin orange outer edge. I don't know if it's trying to be diplomatic? China is huge, with an yellow center, which blends out to orange. With Taiwan being so very small, there is not much room to blend the colors, so the colors seem pretty hard-edged. I really don't know the manufacturer's intent, but you'll need a magnifying glass to see Taiwan.
