Short, Direct guide
Short book and a good simple guide that’s useful in forming communities of practice in organizations. The real value for me were the sources / references of information.

A "How to Guide" for CoPs
I was tasked with starting a CoP at work and bought and read three books on CoPs.One was extremely academic(Communities of Practice: Learning, Meaning, and Identity (Learning in Doing: Social, Cognitive and Computational Perspectives)),The second practical yet extensive ( Cultivating Communities of Practice),Finally the third - this book. This book is very simple and pragmatic, it's a book which is meant to be put to practical use. If I were to get just one it would be the second, but this is a very good guide to applying the knowledge gained y reading the first two.

Good as a general reference for newbies.
Good as a general reference for newbies, most of the topics are explained at a very high level, few some particular examples.Maybe the author could have vast experience working on CoPs, however, I would like to be reflected on the book. Finally, not sure if you are forming a CoP you should avoid including new members on it, so maybe you will have a "CoP" formed by your mindset and decision, so it's not a CoP.

Great book
Very short (~90 pages) and sense-packed book about building communities of practice. It’s very structured and goes from identifying the need in the community, through forming the community to establishing the community to be self-maintaining. I really like such format, sometimes I was discovering that entire pages were highlighed, that’s how much sense it has.

Practical enough to use when starting a CoP
I returned a couple of books on communities of practice before finding this one referred to by another reviewer. And it's a keeper for several reasons: matter-of-fact style based on experience, good illustrations that are not hand drawn, small enough to read in a day and give to prospective leaders without breaking the bank. One insight I had was that the safe feeling level of a CoP member may mirror the type of members from core members providing the most respect and safety, to outside members being less concerned with the communities standards.

Emily provides great direct advice in this short read
Emily provides great direct advice in this short read. It's refreshing to have an author get to the point and not add "fluff" and repeat information to make their book look more valuable.

Good value for price
Nicely summarised practical tips, found some ideas to use in my own work (building a community of practice for testing)
