Introduction To The Devout Life

Depending on your temperament you must choose your spiritual guide. For me this is apt. For the Choleric , St Alphonsus Liguori. I keep telling people who moan about the terrible state of the world that it has always been bad . It was bad in St Alphonsus' time and no better now and yet people still persisted on their journey to heaven not falling for the wiles of the world or if they did getting back up again and continuing. You just need help to get through this sojourn. We cannot do it alone. Thank God for his saints.This book is for the quiet people.

Arrived by Kindle. Good practical advice on how to love God and neighbour. preferred to buy kindle because it was cheaper than the book and arrived quicker.

A classic of Catholic devotional life.

I have only read the translator's preface but if it is anything to go by, there should be a warning that this illustrated edition is an expurgated version. Unfortunately the translator was preparing the volume for the "English Church" by which he means the Anglican Church. As such he admits to removing chapters which deal with doctrines not to his taste and translating certain phrases in as un-Romish way as possible. I wanted the full text not some bowdlerised version. The irony is that St Francis de Sales devoted his life to winning souls back from the clutches of the sorts of heresies to which the translator had succumbed.

This book is one that'll make you think more carefully about living a pious life.

The book is fabulous, easy to read and understand. It will really help you to dive deeper into your faith and further your spiritual life I say, must read for any Catholic.

Amazing book ,had it earlier many moons ago and it was all worn out,was thrilled to get a new copy.

St. Francis de Sales wrote this beautiful book to give guidance to one soul, but the book lives on and continues to give guidance to all who desire to live their lives to be fruitful in Jesus. I heartily recommend it - read it slowly, devotionally, meditatively, and prayerfully. It has all that is needed to change our anxious world life to one that devoted to God alone.

Extremely important book must read
