Made by James: The Honest Guide to Creativity and Logo Design Hardcover – 1 Feb. 2022

I love how this book not only focuses on breaking down the logo design process and really gives you an insight on how the James creative process and thinking but also makes you think about other aspects in your life like creating a routine, building healthy habits and surrounding yourself with the right people. It’s definitely given me food for thought and I’m going to make changes in my life as well as continuing to grow my knowledge and skills as a designer. Coming from a marketing background and being completely new to design, him breaking down this complete process to come up with ideas and his thinking towards it will help me so much going forward into 4th year at uni, I switched from a marketing degree to digital design and have felt like a fish out of water so I’m genuinely so thankful for this book. Keep being awesome James!

So excited when this arrived!! As expected the book is beautifully presented, as soon as you open it your eyes are treated to a double page of MBJs very cool brand assets and logos and if you follow James on his socials then you'll recognise them instantly. I've followed him for a while now and always love coming across his posts if your not already following him go do it - your missing out.So much insight, advice, process, ideas, passion and genuine honesty in this book - its full of golden nuggets and I'm only on chapter five and thoroughly enjoying it.This book not only looks good but it feels good in your hands when your reading it. I'd highly recommend it to any level creative.

Its a very enjoyable read, from one creative to lots of others.With a good amount of visual stimulus to break up each section, James makes it feels like each chapter is a stand alone piece aswell as part of something greater.There’s a playful overtone that makes the book enjoyable, with a hint more at “this is what I do” than a judgement or prescriptive based- “this is what you should do.”A nod to the reality that being creative is one of the most important things that makes you you. So pickup a sketchbook and make sure you don’t lose that.

If anyone is starting out in Design or is a Designer I highly suggest this masterpiece! I've been in Fashion Design for 23 years and love all aspects of Design and James Book is Brilliant, very helpful and full of knowledge!! Worth 10 stars out 10.

I've followed James on Instagram for a good while and always found his posts to be very helpful. His beautiful book does not disappoint. So much so that I couldn't put it down! It is both engaging and insightful, as well as filled with great examples of his work. I've often felt like an imposter in the creative industry, which as a result has made me lose confidence in my abilities. However, reading this book has helped me realise it's normal to feel this way and encouraged me to continue to do my thing. Thank you James for being so transparent and open! You are incredible!

I have followed James on Instagram for some time now, finding him to be inspiring, practical, authentic and helpful. Not only that, but his work is the stuff you wish you made. Following a difficult time that caused a huge loss of creative confidence I sat down and opened this beautiful book, marvelling at the lovely production. I honestly could have sat and read this book in one sitting, as it was easy to read, engaging, and full of inspiration and help. It made me want to pick up a pencil and start drawing! Thank you James.

Got Made by James after seeing it on Instagram, once I opened it, I couldn’t put it down. It’s unlike any other book on design that I’ve read before, it’s insightful on a personal level. I would say essential for designers of any kind looking to go freelance or start an agency. James is honest about the process and everything he does, and is at the forefront of avoiding gatekeeping in the design world to try and encourage and inspire others to start their journey!

This is a great book and a really good read. Highly recommend it.
