Q: How big is the actual frame itself there the picture goes?

Without opening it, it's about 3 1/4" by 5 1/2". We used a 4"x6" picture that fit perfect as long as the image is not taking up the full picture.

Q: what is the photo size?

The photo size recommended is 4 x 6. inches. The opening size needs to be a little smaller to ensure the photo overlaps the matt/frame so there will be a little bit of cropping at the very edges of the photo which is typical for matted photo frames. Hope this helps.

Hi. The width of just the black frame is 2cm (0.79inches)
