The Claws of Memory
With Isley finally defeated, the Organization begins to make its move by deploying their most powerful Claymores, Alicia and Beth, along with a force of their new Abyss Feeders to take on the last remaining Creature of the Abyss Riful of the West. Meanwhile Riful's own experiments begin to provide some unexpected and terrifying results and while Clare and her friends are caught in the middle. This was another very good volume of `Claymore' with some very nice battles and some nice twists to the plot as well. Riful is one of my favourite characters from the series so it is always good to see more of her, even if she is in a rather poor situation. The results of Riful's experiments are another nice addition to the story, even if it is slightly over the top. Overall this was a very good volume that leaves things in a very interesting place for the next instalment.

Claymore is a great "magic" series
This manga series is ultra-violent and stars young women with superpowers. That is probably what most people see when they look at the covers. Sure the weapon of choice appears to be insanely large swords, but that's just a sideline. However, the tale grew far beyond that. Norihiro had a web he wove of characters, plots and personalities that transcended the rather basic idea. By this volume the main characters have gone through multiple transformations and are engaging not because of their power, but often in spite of it. And this volume is a great example as several of the main villains begin a war that the main characters are mostly witness too rather than direct participants in.I do have quibbles with some of the plotline. Norihiro took some shortcuts in his exposition and found some easy ways to remove a character he didn't want, but the overall tale is solid and fun. But you really have to start at the beginning to understand who the characters are and what their powers are.
